Victoria paying $25,000,000 interest per day.
And a call to stop all infrastructure …
There’s this nightmare roundabout where works started 4 months ago near us… and they put barriers up to make 2 lanes into one. Nothing has been done in last 2 months and traffic at peak times are horrendous and slow!
So there we have it, half done job and made it worse than ever.
Not happy Jan!  Angry

https://au.finance.yahoo.com/news/interest-bill-piling-victoria-state-054724909....

Given your aversion to paying tax  (see your 2nd post), what is your policy for funding infrastructure?

I didn’t write of any aversion of paying tax… I have a dislike of the ATO charging 12% for paying in instalments. I thought it excessive!
Half that would suffice don’t you think?

Yes. In fact there should be NO interest charged on people who can't afford to pay tax in one go.

BUT - back to the topic; how should "bankrupt" Victoria pay for essential infrastructure?

Glad we both see eye to eye RE: tax instalments should be have any interest but even half what they do charge is better than 12%

Re: our Vic infrastructure… it became obvious our guvment ran out of money 2 months ago when all machinery were removed from that nightmare roundabout… and no works in progress since,
Hubby was in the money when he said back then…”they ran out of money”

Looks like we are stuffed then. Catch 22.

In our travels, we note Qld is doing so well with their continual road works, it’s enviable.

Our debt in Vic is so high, I wish I knew where it was all spent.
I said loooong ago… the mothers club should run the finances in our state.

Labor just wants to stay in power -

even if the country is ruined.

Halfwits vote for them.

Er.....why are the Libs on the nose with the electorate - not ONE LNP government on the mainland?

Labor tricked the voters -
they never mentioned that they would allow mass immigration -
putting severe pressure on rental accommodation and house prices.
It also puts strains on: hospitals, schools, roads, railways and social security.

Immigration is great - we were built on immigration -
but there has to be limits and this year we will see 1 million more immigrants.
It's just far too many.
Where are these people supposed to live?

Oh... so Labor is in power everywhere on the mainland because Labor tricked the electorate  on immigation.

Nice one, both sides are signed up to a 'big Oz' policy.

And Morrison added $half a trillion to national debt, to avoid social collapse during the pandemic.

Morrison over reacted  but it didn't help that Dan closed Victoria down and
then put his hand out for 100s of $billions to pay people out of work.   Roll Eyes

I see I can't expect any ideas from you re funding infrastructure in "bankrupt" Victoria - you are happy to go with the mother's club instead....

Try telling hubby the Federal govenment can't run out of Australian dollars**, because the Oz treasury (+CB)  is the only legal issuer of them (the only legal institution in the world to issue Oz dollars - apart from private banks in Oz, another story).

** and hence it can deal with Vic debt.

Poor Bobby proudly sports his ignorance of the nature of money, perhaps hubby has a more sophisticated awareness...

Yes - they can print money but sooner or later it will cause hyper-inflation.
Inflation already cost me a fortune in the last 3 years.
The money printing losers at the RBA - turning Aussie's into losers.

You know what pisses me off?

the RBA carrying on about -

ohh we have to raise interest rates because inflation is out of control.

Not once did they ever come out and apologise for the inflation
by admitting they printed all the funny money that caused it.

It's their fault.

Poor Bobby, prouldly sporting his ignorance of the  nature of money, which is always created out of thin air, whether by governments or private banks so authorized.

Price controls, and rationing when supply fails,  will fix inflation.   And CB's should be demoted to the role of clearing service for private banks, in a permanent near zero interest-rate scenario.

Our central bank - the RBA printed $1.2 trillion.    Shocked

Continual roads works? They were working on expanding the M1 on the GC when I moved up there 16 yrs ago, they were still working on the same expansion programme when I left last year. It's only enviable for those not having to drive on it daily, for the locals it's a disaster.

I know of a roundabout in Victoria that took 18 months to be built.
Every time I went past there were men leaning on shovels doing nothing.   Roll Eyes

Poor braindead Goober thinks that any money creation causes hyperinflation.

JK Galbraith “Money, whence it came, where it went” is a book he could—but won’t—read for some info re money creation.

Need a functioning brain to read books and learn. Goober does not have a functioning brain.

Nope, too late for our rescue I’m afraid, once upon a time when it was redeemable the mothers knew best how to budget, feed family, fundraise for schools needs, and save for a rainy day.
Now… we are just left with holding the baby.
And a big one at that. Ever hungry with little growth.

Back when Libs were in circus 1980s they pulled the purse strings real tight. A lot of services cut (like visiting health nurses in rural areas for baby checks etc) schools closed down and hence crowded classrooms, I recall my mum whinging about the Libs, saying they had a porcupine in their pocket and too afraid to spend! But did Victoria lift its debt? Didn’t we become debt free at that point in time?
Enter labor and what happens next?
