One thing about where I now live—no mosquitoes! Have not heard a single one! This is NOT a complaint!
Facebook webpages have "facts" pages. They said that Iceland has no mosquitos or snakes on the island. I found that such a foreign experience to me.
It gets too cold in Tassie for mosquitos to breed. Up here, you have to be careful where you leave your buckets, because a rain shower could fill up enough water for mosquitos to breed.
Every year during the coldest part of winter, I light up a citronella lantern under my house. Part of the reason is to keep under the house a little warmer. But, I buy a large bottle of citronella oil with bifenthrin. Bifenthrin is an insecticide that makes sure that the larvae undergoing diapause are killed off, so that they don't become hatched mosquitos during the next rain event.
I have 3 mosquito zappers on during the rain periods. During the summer months, I will light up mosquito coils under the house just prior, during, and just after rain events, whenever there is a plague of mosquitos. Recently, I light up citronella tea lights in the toilet room, because that room is the only room of the house with uncloseable louvres. It keeps the mosquitos out of the house, and the room a little warmer for a few hours of the winter mornings.
