Compare with the price of new cars. Last I checked, which was a while ago, you barely got a discount for buying second hand. There was a shortage of second hand cars due to covid. The dealers will try to convince you there is also a shortage of new cars, but you should be able to negotiate $2000 off the advertised price.

You should be able to get a white manual petrol Mitsubishi ASX or similar for what you are looking at paying.

Are you purporting to be an expert on car sales, values, fd?  Are you giving advice you are willing to be sued for if you are wrong?

Avoid small cars  like Toyota Yaris not much crumple zone.

For second hand cars look for something owned by older person who is unlikely to thrash it full service history and always garaged.

A second hand Corolla hybrid sedan might be in budget my local dealer had one for $27K. 4L/100Km about 20km range on electric power battery recharges as you drive.

Dealers usually give huge discounts on dealer demonstrators they give full new warranty on cars that might have around 2000km on clock. I saved around $10 k buying a dealer demo call around and see if any will haggle might be right time of year for this.

A 20 year old Camry would be worth half that.

You would be lucky to comprehensively insure it for $3k

Nope.  He's spot on with his price.

Second-hand cars are selling for crazy prices, especially Toyotas, and a Camry is one of the most reliable cars on the road.

You can add another $2K if the main rubber drive belt is due to be replaced.

Older V8 SS Commodore, P plate legal, 1994, collectors item. I just happen to have one in Genesis Blue with a Clubsport body kit... 217k on the clock.

Edit: I also have V6 VE Series II Sportswagon I would like to let go so I can justify buying an SS Sportswagon. You can have that for 5k.

If Toyota, I like the look of the the Yaris X hybrid.
$25 will get a low km example
