Imagine running for more than 14 minutes, and you are on your last lap of a 5000 metre race. You still have 300 metres left to run that last section inside 52 seconds. You get to the end of the race and stop the time at 14:51.98. But the clock is corrected by 0.2 seconds to put you out of the qualifying standard time for the 5000 metres.
