What is your point? I either take my glasses off or look over them down the scope, too, when firing a rifle.
There was no scope and Crooks didn't take his glasses off. You are a experienced shooter, Crooks wasn't.
So there no surprise that he missed at this distance.
Using an AR-15 at a distance of 130 metres, Crooks could have wounded Mr Trump. But he did not in those 3 or more shots he allegedly fired. Admittedly, having never fired an AR-15 in my life, I don't know how accurate are those rifles.
I am not an experienced shooter. It must have been about 20 years since I last picked up a rifle. It must also be nearly 27 years since I fired a sniper rifle at a distance of 1000 metres at a clay target (the size of a dinner plate) and hitting it.
What I do know, in my brief attempt at marksman training, is that Crooks would have needed to have been a distracted shooter to have missed from a short distance. For all I know, if he knew he was going to die that day, hypothetically, he should have walked up to the shed (and not climbed on the roof) and taken a number of shots from the ground. Not that I am condoning anyone ever do that. Then, with his primary target down, he could have either attempted to evade capture, or he could have shot it out with the police snipers (standing up) who were themselves vulnerable. Again, I am not saying that anyone should shoot at the police. Being a lone gunman, I would need a reliable getaway vehicle.
Oh, and with COVID protocols probably still in place, he would mask up and have decent sunglasses on for that sunny day. A change of shoes. Perhaps even wear some gloves so that no fingerprints or shoeprints were left behind. And who does not love a good haircut as a reward for a job completed? Wash that colour out, too.
I have fired AR15 and M16s
AR15 has 2-3 MOA (minute of angle) accuracy with reasonable ammo at 100 yards which means the bullet will go within 2-3 inches of where you aim. At 150 yards it will be within 3-4.5 inches of aim point.
That is not taking into account crosswind how much did he miss by?
To hit a dinner plate at 1000 yards consistanly a 1 MOA accuracy rifle which is pretty good you will be shooting at least 10 inch groups at that distance if there is no wind if you have scope dialled in properly.
Laser rangefinders are common these days many people overestimate the distance they're shooting at.
Use Google earth to measure 1000M or yards from your front door it's a long way to shoot.
He had a death wish he wasn't getting out of there alive he wouldn't have made it to his vehicle.
