Stop EXCLUSIVE Native Title Claim on Great Keppel

Quote:
To the Honourable President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled:

We, the undersigned, hereby petition the Senate to address the secretive native title claim that threatens the future of Great Keppel Island as an iconic tourist destination.

We draw the attention of the Senate to the following concerns:

Native Title Claim: A native title application lodged with the Federal Court last month seeks exclusive possession, occupation, use, and enjoyment by the Woppaburra people over an additional 70% of Great Keppel Island.

Government Inaction: The Queensland Labor government has been aware of this application since 13 May but has remained silent, in a sign they are likely to support the application.

Budget Concerns: Despite a $30 million commitment to restore Great Keppel Island in April, this funding is missing from the latest budget, raising doubts about the government's intentions.

Impact on Tourism: If the native title application is successful, it could prevent future resort developments and significantly harm the tourism and visitor industry on the island. The application seeks to exclude all others from the land, restricting public access and stifling revitalisation efforts.

Quote:
We, therefore, request that the Senate:

Investigate the Native Title Claim: Conduct a thorough investigation into the native title claim and its potential impact on Great Keppel Island's tourism industry.

Ensure Transparency and Accountability: Hold the Queensland Labor government accountable for their handling of this issue and ensure transparency in their actions and commitments.

Protect Public Access and Tourism: Develop measures to protect public access to Great Keppel Island and support the development of tourism infrastructure that benefits all Australians.

Conclusion: The native title claim on Great Keppel Island poses a significant threat to its future as a tourist destination. We urge the Senate to take immediate action to investigate and address this issue, ensuring the island remains accessible and continues to thrive as a key tourist spot.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the Senate to take swift and decisive action on this matter.

Not a native title claim - Native LANDS claim... you need to watch governments here very closely.

Nah - native title rights to free and equal usage are sufficient... they don't own it, haven't owned it for ages, and never did anything but go fishing there sometimes anyway.

This is just another land grab for prime estate.

Lawfare you see?  Place a claim in a biased forum - a place funded FOR you alone and nobody else..... and don't even bother with any other views - let alone of the majority of the State's people.  Who asked them anyway?  Who the hell do these majority people think they are dictating to a government here?

I see they've already got the best bits - they want the resorts and such and the Australian public (as excluded) to pay for full renos (again).

NO!

Oh - is this correct?  Now we have 'native title' that does not imply ownership - and also 'exclusive possession native title' - how many grades of 'native title' do they want?

Now that, Poppets, is what I mean when we discuss 'mission' and 'definition' 'creep' in such things as 'a voice advisory body' - it will always and forever and unceasingly seek to expand its rights and privileges at the expense of others until it has total control as demanded in their Mein Kampf - the Statement from the heart.

Australia sure dodged a bullet voting down the voice... this kind of incredible 'representation' - where a small group can just lodge a claim with a government body set up to accommodate them only under a government leaning towards them only - and just demand to be given, free of charge, some of the very best prime land in the country, shows clearly why such an 'advisory' body was worthless anyway.... just another free ride as massive cost to everyone else in every way.

Now vote this down.  Vote for any party that will abolish this nonsense.

I've offered the best solution for EVERYONE - they can have a gifted small portion of any claim as freehold as long as they can prove who they are - the rules are totally different now from 1787 and the population much higher and the rules are different, so you cannot demand, by any standard, any swathe of land - the rest is shared with everyone else - unless you prefer that anyone be able to go to a government body and claim a fine patch of land for free....  FFS... get a life, you people.
