The salary of the GG is set by the Governer general act on 1974, and not by Albo.
It takes into account any existing pensions owing, which the previous GG Hurley had, and which Sam Mostyn does not. Hence the 'pay rise'. It has nothing to do with Albo.
Irrespective of that ......
Quote:Patrick Gorman, the assistant minister to the prime minister, introduced a bill into federal parliament on Monday morning which would raise the salary for the governor general from $495,000 to $709,017.
So it had shyte loads to do with Albo.
There's no way this GG should be on that sort of salary.......
especially in light of Albanese & Labor being committed to Australia becoming a Republic.
Quote:Following Labor's victory in the 2022 federal election, the new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, appointed Matt Thistlethwaite to the newly created office of Assistant Minister for the Republic, signalling a commitment to prepare Australia for a transition to republic following the next election.
So whilst the position of the GG(the Kings Representative in Australia) still exists he's appointed a Captains call(jobs for the girls) person in Sam Mostyn.
