50 years ago,  a political stalemate led to Australia's first and only joint sitting  Gough had the right idea, pity we can't emulate it.   Cool

Someone said we could not judge a person's Aboriginality on their skin colour.  Why isn't that applied in the matter of Pascoe?  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

That's a really interesting post, thankyou.

I always assumed he got sacked because he was completely hopeless and sending the country broke.

It's very interesting to read the truth rather than myths

Whitlam is often ranked in the upper-tier of Australian prime ministers by political experts and academics, with political journalist Paul Kelly writing in 1994 that "there is no doubt that in three years his government was responsible for more reforms and innovations than any other government in Australian history".

It is arguable that the Whitlam government was deposed by the actions of the CIA both financial and in their influence in the media and their propaganda resources. Any government that is opposed by foreign intelligence services acting with Australian intelligence services would find it difficult to survive because they would be unable to keep any information from being leaked to the media.

Please don't thank me. Effusive fawning and obeisance of disciples, mendicants, and foot-kissers embarrass me.

They bunged on a credit squeeze in 74', which made it hard for recently discharged conscripts looking for jobs. Unemployment was rising, and no one would employ them because of that, and the stigma of them having been in the Army
