Cold = longevity?
Aug 23rd, 2024 at 9:56am

Well who woulda thought cold can increase lifespan?
Take sharks for instance….500 years old!
Because of lurking in the dark oceans between -1.8 to 7.5 degrees, the teams reckon this could be slowing down chemical and biological reasons in their bodies.
I’m not going to complain of feeling the cold ever again since it may slow down aging  Grin
How fascinating is this article….

Antarctic is colder then  -1.8 to 7.5 degrees but the average life expectancy of penguins is probably 15 to 20 years only.

Northern Europeans live longer because they live in colder climates.

Or the ACT.

Lol, just kidding - it's never a good choice to move to the ACT.

The closer to the poles, the better. You and Bobby might end up outliving me. Tropical living in not something a white guy like me can handle. Too many snakes and crocodiles with which to contend. Enjoy that European-type weather down there.

I have to get my skin checked very soon.

The oldest average aged humans are in Sardinia and Japan

Not as cold as the more northern countries ...

longevity isn't about how hot or cold it is, longevity comes about with diet.

I was just reading a story about a woman in the uk that lived to 115.
Outliving her son whom passed away in his 80s

I don’t get it… if it’s genes that determine longevity…

This is fascinating…. longest living humans and where they were from.

Try telling that to the Africans. I bet any African living in colder climates are living longer than those living in Kinshasa.

Cold therapy is quite well known.

I have a cold rinse at the end of my showers and swum through the winter last 2 years.
Google 'Wim Hof' - the Ice man.
there are regions where people do the 'polar bear' activity and swim in cold waters in the middle of winter

Yes I know about Wim Hof…. He’s one tough man! My daughter told me about him, he was currently doing weekend retreats here in Australia.
The breathing methods are powerful … I was at doctors other day… she took my BP and it was a bit higher then she took it again… I closed my eyes and did some steady deep breathing and felt totally calm and the reading went right down! Doctor looked at it with wide eyes and smiled nodding towards machine reading. I must admit I was amazed at the result too.
At gym the exercise physiologist starts us all with deep breathing techniques before warm up stretches.
