What utter hysterical nonsense - under no circumstances can an American President become a dictator..... that's what checks and balances are all about - and they set out to design it that way so that nobody could impose on the people at whim.
In practice there are faults - but at the heart of THIS discussion - NOBODY in the United States can become a dictator like Hitler ... maybe a little petty despot like Rudd, with his subordinates in an echo chamber - but not in the real world.
I'd like a few checks to improve my balance....
Just so. Under no circumstances can a Vice Prez reject a democratic presidential vote from the states.
That's what they have electoral colleges for.
Under no circumstances can fake electoral delegates be put in those colleges to vote for an illegitimate president. That's what they have real electoral delegates for.
Under no circumstances can an armed mob attack the Capitol in an attempt to force politicians to reject a popular vote. That's what they have cops for.
Under no circumstances would an incumbent president ever attempt to order such crimes. That's what they have impeachment proceedings for.
Failing that, under no circumstances would they not be charged when they leave office. That's what they have criminal laws and courts for.
Under no circumstances would a former president ever take such charges to the Supreme Court, argue that whatever a prez does is legal, using the hypothetical of ordering the Navy Seals to take out his political opponents.
The courts would dismiss it entirely, all the way to the Supreme Court, but do you know?
Under no circumstances would an ex-prez run for office in order to overturn such charges.
No major political party would ever allow them to run.
Under no circumstances would they receive mainstream political support. Under no circumstances would anybody vote for them in primaries, or support them in public - or promote them in other democratic countries like ours.
Under no circumstances could a president run on a ticket of vengeance, mass arrests, locking up political rivals and saying they're free to overturn the constitution.
It would never happen. Never ever.
There are too many checks and balances, no?
