After being a life long Republican voter who bought into Trump, voted for Trump, then was disillusioned by his performance, his lies, his record and turned against him.

It's an important distinction.

But it ultimately doesn't matter, or it shouldn't matter.

He was trying to take the life of a presidential candidate. That is not OK, no matter who you want to blame it on.

They remember how bad it was under his administration - they don't wanna go through that again.

It'll be interesting to see if the party will get behind Trump again in 2028 if he loses this year.

MAGA was a Reagan slogan: "Let's Make America Great Again".

All Republicans look to the myth of Reagan like modern Democrats look to the myths of FDR and JFK.

Trump's base are the red-headed step-children of pre-FDR southern Democrats.

Trump was on Fox complaining about the Democrat's language causing him to be shot out, then in the same interview says about Harris and Walz that "these are people that want to destroy our country" and "It is called the enemy from within. They are the real threat".

He's been ramping up his violent rhetoric since 2016 so for 4 years, he was slowly radicalising his would be assassins.

I guess Trump never thought voting against mental health services would lead to two of his disillusioned cultists jumping ship and doing to him what he's been slowly training them to do to his opponents.

As much as this violence is unacceptable, it's hard to hold any sympathy for Trump facing the consequences of his actions.
