In the interview, Mr. Routh said he was in Washington to meet with the U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, known as the Helsinki Commission "for two hours" to help push for more support for Ukraine. The commission is led by members of Congress and staffed by congressional aides. It is influential on matters of democracy and security and has been vocal in supporting Ukraine.

For a "North Carolina construction worker", he seems surprisingly at ease in the chancelleries of power. By sheer coincidence (of course), just about the first person of prominence to pooh-pooh Trump's latest brush with violent death was Routh's fellow Ukrainian activist Rachel Vindman, the wife of the Hero of Impeachment One and sister-in-law of a Virginia congressional candidate.

Mr Routh claims to have met with high-level officials in Kiev and Washington. Along the way, did he also meet with the Vindmans?

It is at least possible to pass off the Butler guy as the stereotypical lone nutter. Ryan Wesley Routh is a tougher peg for that hole.

It is now almost a decade since the alphabet-soup agencies began their efforts to subvert Donald Trump (and America's so-called "democracy") by setting up George Papadopoulos in a London wine bar, etc. Is it such a stretch to suggest, on the evidence of the last two months, that elements in the Deep State have now cut to the chase and are trying to kill him?

We are close to a point of no return here, but the Dems are determined to blow past that.

Are you not concerned that, since the debate, you have resorted to echoing extremist rhetoric and conspiracy theories to defend Trump’s abysmal performance?

Does it not trouble you that Harris so easily bested him, leading you and his supporters to adopt these extreme measures, plunging them into a state of detachment from reality?

The reality is that two former Republican supporters, once disillusioned with Trump, have stopped viewing Democrats as the true source of tyranny and now see Trump as the culprit. This path, which Trump himself paved, has led to attempted acts of violence.

Currently, the only victim Trump can claim to be is of his own lack of preparation for the debate and his failure to present any substantive policy platform outside of Project 2025. Additionally, he is a casualty of the polarised landscape he created—a landscape in which he repeatedly called for violence, not just on January 6th.

Neither Trump nor his loyalists expressed concern when their opponents were under attack. Innocent people suffered at the hands of extremist groups or lone-wolf terrorists, often fuelled by hateful ideologies. Incidents ranged from attacks on pizza parlours to hospitals during the COVID-19 crisis, and even the assault of political opponents’ family members.

Now, Trump’s own son is publicly lamenting that his father is a victim of violence, blaming Democrats for the situation. This is the same person who once made light of the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband, even suggesting dressing as the assailant for Halloween, hammer and all.

For years, they have revelled in the chaos and violence their rhetoric has unleashed. Yet, now that the consequences are affecting them directly, they hypocritically call for a higher level of discourse. Meanwhile, in the same breath, they label Harris, the Democrats, and others as “the enemy from within” and “the real threat,” implying they seek the country's destruction.

It has always been about wielding violence and fostering discord to gain power, while simultaneously complaining that the system is rigged against them. And yet, these are the people you, Bobi, and so many others, stand with.

It is nothing short of disgraceful.
