BEIRUT, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Israel's Mossad spy agency planted a small amount of explosives inside 5000 Taiwan-made pagers ordered by Lebanese group Hezbollah months before Tuesday's detonations, a senior Lebanese security source and another source told Reuters.
The details shed light on an unprecedented Hezbollah security breach that saw thousands of pagers detonate across Lebanon, killing nine people and wounding nearly 3,000 others, including the group's fighters and Iran's envoy to Beirut.
Iran-backed Hezbollah has vowed to retaliate against Israel, whose military declined to comment on the blasts.
The plot appears to have been many months in the making, several sources told Reuters.
The senior Lebanese security source said the group had ordered 5,000 beepers made by Taiwan-based Gold Apollo, which several sources say were brought into the country in the spring.

Another security source told Reuters that up to three grams of explosives
were hidden in the new pagers and had gone "undetected" by Hezbollah for months.

There would be no room for that.
It must have been a fake battery that was internally smaller than the original
and the extra room taken up with 3 grams of explosive and a micro detonator.
They would have used the battery data link for the code to set it off and
must have modified the firmware in the radio to do that.

Given that the original battery lasted for 85 days between charges -
if it still went for say 65 days then no one would notice the battery as a bit inferior.

There will be a logistics trail that will lead to the perpetrators.

Logistic trails are difficult to hide.

There will also be a financial trail that will expose Mossad accounts in West-Asian Gulf states that allow Mossad to operate in their borders.

It appears at this time that Hungary is complicit in the acts of terrorism because one of the implicated entities was registered in Hungary and no announcement of arrests has been made by Hungary.

The Taiwan brand owner is also complicit because he engaged in business transactions he suspected were not legitimate.
