The pagers of Hezbollah supporters could have explosives installed. Apparently, they use these gadgets to exchange or receive encrypted messages. If the Israelis capture a militant or his device, the pager will be detonated remotely, destroying the information. It is possible that the secret services managed to figure out how exactly this is done and send the necessary signal to subscribers.

Reports are emerging that the Pagers were compromised either in manufacturing or the supply chain.

It appears more likely in manufacturing because it would have required loading of compromised software to trigger the explosive devices as well as the explosives.

Taiwan is compromised, Motorola is compromised. Taiwanese products will experience a sharp decline in sales.

Taiwan will have to investigate because its reputation is compromised and associated with terrorism.

Motorola is the patent owner and OEM of the devices and Motorola is known to have an association with Israeli Military.

A source close to Hezbollah, asking not to be identified, had previously told AFP that "the pagers that exploded concern a shipment recently imported by Hezbollah of 1,000 devices," which appear to have been "sabotaged at source."

The Times reported some 3,000 pagers were ordered from Gold Apollo, mostly its AP924 model.

The blasts "killed nine people, including a girl," Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad said.

"For Israel to embed an explosive trigger within the new batch of pagers, they would have likely needed access to the supply chain of these devices," Brussels-based military and security analyst Elijah Magnier told AFP.

"Israeli intelligence has infiltrated the production process, adding an explosive component and remote triggering mechanism into the pagers without raising suspicion," he said, raising the prospect the third party which sold the devices could have been an "intelligence front" set up by Israel for the purpose.

There has been no immediate comment by Israel on the incident.

Taiwanese pager manufacturer says the beepers that detonated were made by European licensee

Taiwan’s Gold Apollo didn’t make the pagers that were used in the detonations in Lebanon on Tuesday, the company’s founder Hsu Ching-Kuang tells reporters.

Images of destroyed pagers analyzed by Reuters showed a format and stickers on the back that were consistent with pagers made by Gold Apollo. A senior Lebanese security source told Reuters that Hezbollah had ordered 5,000 pagers from the Taiwan-based Gold Apollo.

Hsu says the pagers used in the explosion were made by a company in Europe that has the right to use the Taiwanese firm’s brand.

“The product was not ours. It was only that it had our brand on it,” he says.

Hsu doesn’t name the company which he says manufactured the pagers, adding Gold Apollo is also a victim of the incident.

“We are a responsible company. This is very embarrassing,” he says.

The failure to name the company it claims manufactured under license confirms the guilt of Taiwanese company Gold Apollo.

The whole of Taiwan and its exports and corporations has been tarnished by the exploding pagers.

If a European company was involved they are criminals and terrorists.

There is no doubt that Motorola is involved as the patent holder and software provider.

The crime involved tampering with the software of the Pagers to turn them into explosive devices.
