My comment to yadda was that I base my opinions on facts, not a thousand yr old book ... you jumped in and said that was my mistake and I should base my opinions on what someone else relies on

Lol. Then you might need to leave! There wouldn't be a single Abo who would want to go back to a Stone Age existence. In fact it was the young male Aboriginals who left the tribes to live and work with the whities that caused the tribal life they lived to collapse. Whitey gave them another way to escape the rigid structure of aboriginal life and the dominance of the old men who ruled with an iron fist and the Bone. The young men had to hand over the best of their catch, they couldn't marry whilst the old men got all the young girls. There was a lot of dissatisfaction with tribal life and the young men saw a different way. They took to horse riding with great skill and made great stockmen. And they definitely preferred whitey's food (and drink). It was all documented by those who lived at that time and I read some really fascinating books that were written about this subject.

When we first arrived in Australia. The aborigines were viewed as less than human. They were not given the same opportunity as the others. They were prevented from owning any land, they had restricted access to education, health care, and employment opportunities. In places like Tasmania, they were hunted to extinction like Tasmania tigers. They were also subjugated,, forced off their lands, and often displaced from one end of the state to another. Their lives are only very recently, starting to improve just after the 1967 referendum, that they are actually considered human beings living in Australia.
