JD calls for lowering inflammatory rhetoric

JD Vance Urges Reduction in Inflammatory Political Rhetoric Following Latest Assassination Attempt on Trump

Supporters of Trump are also calling on Vice President Harris to refrain from making assertions, such as claims that Trump will be a dictator.

However, what if Trump himself has been the one perpetuating the very rhetoric JD Vance now suggests should cease? What if he has openly declared an intention to act as a 'dictator' from day one?

Why is directly quoting Trump's statements considered so perilous to the safety of the United States, while the original remarks made by Trump seemingly pass without consequence?
