Israeli official confirms strike targeted Nasrallah, tells ToI: ‘Very hard to imagine him coming out alive’
By Lazar Berman

An Israeli official confirms to The Times of Israel that today’s strike on Beirut targeted Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

“It’s very hard to imagine him coming out alive from a strike like that,” says the official.

The official’s comments came as Hebrew media reports cite a growing Israeli assessment that Nasrallah was killed in the strike on Hezbollah’s underground headquarters.

Israeli military issues another evacuation order for parts of southern Beirut

The Israeli military issued another evacuation order for residents of Al-Barajneh and Al-Hadath neighborhoods to leave specific locations indicated on maps in Beirut’s southern Dahiyeh.

“You are present near Hezbollah facilities and for the safety of you and your loved ones, you are obliged to evacuate the buildings immediately and move away from them for a distance of no less than 500 meters,” the Israeli military’s Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement on Saturday.

Those buildings include some near a school in the Al-Barajneh neighborhood, a densely populated Palestinian refugee camp that is also home to Syrian refugees and migrant workers. Adraee also ordered residents to evacuate the buildings in front of and near another school in Al-Hadath.

Shortly after the evacuation order was issued, a CNN team in Beirut saw at least four airstrikes hit multiple locations in the southern suburbs.

The evacuation order comes after an earlier one in which Adraee also told residents in several buildings in the Al-Laylaki neighborhood to evacuate, as well as in Al-Hadath.

    LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Israel launches fresh wave of strikes on Beirut
Residents of southern suburbs warned to leave
No confirmation of fate of Hezbollah leader Nasrallah

BEIRUT/JERUSALEM, Sept 28 (Reuters) - A wave of air raids hit Beirut's southern suburbs early on Saturday as Israel stepped up attacks on Hezbollah, after a massive strike on the Iran-backed movement's command centre that apparently targeted leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Reuters witnesses heard more than 20 airstrikes before dawn on Saturday. Abandoning their homes in the southern suburbs, thousands of Lebanese congregated in squares, parks and sidewalks in downtown Beirut and seaside areas.
"They want to destroy Dahiye, they want to destroy all of us," said Sari, a man in his 30s who gave only his first name, referring to the suburb he had fled after an Israeli evacuation order. Nearby, the newly displaced in Beirut's Martyrs Square rolled mats onto the ground to tried to sleep.
An unprecedented five hours of continuous strikes early on Saturday followed Friday's attack, by far the most powerful by Israel on Beirut during nearly a year of war with Hezbollah. It marked a sharp escalation of a conflict that has involved daily missile and rocket fire between the two sides.
The latest escalation has sharply increased fears the conflict could spiral out of control, potentially drawing in Iran, Hezbollah's principal backer, as well as the United States.
There was no immediate confirmation of Nasrallah's fate after Friday's heavy strikes, but a source close to Hezbollah told Reuters he was not reachable. The Lebanese armed group has not made a statement.
Israel has not said whether it tried to hit Nasrallah, but a senior Israeli official said top Hezbollah commanders were targeted.
"I think it's too early to say... Sometimes they hide the fact when we succeed," the Israeli official told reporters when asked if the strike on Friday had killed Nasrallah.
Earlier, a source close to Hezbollah told Reuters that Nasrallah was alive. Iran's Tasnim news agency also reported he was safe. A senior Iranian security official told Reuters that Tehran was checking his status.
The Israeli military said in a statement that it had killed the commander of Hezbollah's missile unit, Muhammad Ali Ismail, and his deputy Hossein Ahmed Ismail.

Lebanon in the 1970s was the Riviera of the east, the Paris of the east until the Muslim militants moved into the neighbourhood.

Google what it once was before Islamic militancy and belligerence. Google "Riviera of the east Lebanon".

The reason Beirut was called the Paris of the Middle East, was because of the Christian influence - as it was considered part of France. The Christians in the early 1900s were business people and made up the majority of the Beirut population.  Christians (and Jews) have always been productive and prosperous people, unlike the muslims.

There was a fair bit of resentment towards Christians who were successful around that time from the muslims who have never been productive at anything - except blowing up buildings. But that was still to come.

My MIL's best friend was a Lebanese Christian who was born here but her grandparents left Beirut in the early 1900s along with her 3 year old father.  In fact, many of their church also migrated at the same time. She always said that Australia would rue the day they allowed Lebanese mussos into the country.  And she was exactly right ... the only thing the mussos excel at is crime.   Angry

Trump's policy on transgender for kids is solid - NO!!

When the media stop showing him like a buffoon, and show him in full flight on a real issue - he comes across very differently - not short grab sentences ('they're eating the dogs.............) - he just says it straight out and in one piece.

Kamala relies on laughing at him as the media attempts to portray him.... I reckon he'll win over her lack of true depth.

Beirut?  Good place to start.  Headline "Netanyahu defies call for ceasefire!"  ... totally wrong from the media - and deliberately so, so as to be anti-Jew and anti-Israel ... he stated clearly that Israel would not permit an unfair ceasefire that will benefit those who attacked Israel... as is his duty to his nation.

N.B - for dividie to chew on a bit - France has troops in Lebanon serving with the UN... not changing one thing or stopping one rocket - and staying away from the firing points.... let them sort it out... pick up the pieces... don't put your troops in harm's way unnecessarily.

Information on Hassan Nasrallah's condition after the Israeli strike that targeted him varies. Reuters, Iranian and Arab media report that the Hezbollah leader is alive, but Israel has called the operation to kill him a success.

The leader of the Shiite group Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, is alive, a source close to the group told Reuters, as did sources in Iran's Tasnim and Saudi Arabia's al Hadath, after Israel struck the group's headquarters in a Beirut suburb.

Tasnim said Nasrallah was in a "safe location" and that Hezbollah would issue a statement soon. A senior Iranian source told Reuters that Tehran was "verifying the status" of the Hezbollah leader. At the same time, a Sky News Arabia source said that Israel assessed the operation to kill Nasrallah as a success.

Nasrallah, 64, became Hezbollah's secretary general in 1992 after the group's previous leader, Abbas al-Musawi, was killed.

https://edition.cnn.com/world/live-news/israel-lebanon-war-hezbollah-09-28-24/in...

Here’s what we know so far:

Where: Strikes hit parts of Beirut, including the southern suburb of Dahiyeh, a densely populated area with a strong Hezbollah presence, and where many of the group’s leadership is based. Israel later launched further strikes on southern Beirut, targeting what it said were stores of Hezbollah weapons. The militant group denied its arms were being stored in civilian buildings targeted by the strikes.

Main target: Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was the target of Israel’s strikes Friday, an Israeli official told CNN. Israel is working to verify whether he was killed, with a senior Israeli official saying it’s “too early to say” if Nasrallah is dead. Multiple Hezbollah commanders and operatives were killed in the strikes Friday, the Israeli military said.

Impact: At least six people were killed and 91 injured in the initial attack Friday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health said, as thousands of displaced residents fled their homes. Six buildings were destroyed, state news agency NNA reported. Video from the immediate aftermath of the attack showed a massive crater that dwarfed rescuers navigating the rubble. The area hit appeared to be considerably larger than previous Israeli strikes on Beirut.
Weapons used: Images of the aftermath suggest 2,000-pound bombs were used in the strikes, a former US Army explosive ordnance disposal expert told CNN. “With the level of damage, it is hard to determine the exact munitions and amount, but likely multiple 2,000-pound bombs, Mk 84s, MPR-2000, or BLU-109 “bunker busters,” or a combination of them,” specialist Trevor Ball said.

What Lebanon says: Prime Minister Najib Mikati has urged the international community to help stop what he called Israeli “tyranny,” state news agency NNA reported Friday. “The new aggression proves that the Israeli enemy does not care about international efforts and calls for a ceasefire,” Mikati said.

Netanyahu’s movements: The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office shared an image of Benjamin Netanyahu approving strikes on Beirut. He is returning to Israel a day early from the UN General Assembly in New York, where he made a combative speech Friday.

Iran’s response: The Iranian embassy in Beirut said the Israeli attack Friday “changes the rules of the game.” It also warned that
Israel would be “punished”
for what Iran’s president described as a “flagrant war crime.”

US frustrated: Israel told the US it was taking military action only moments before the attacks — once the operation was already underway, one US official said. President Joe Biden later told reporters the US had “no knowledge of or participation in” the strikes. Top US officials were already furious this week after Netanyahu threw cold water on a Washington-backed ceasefire proposal for Israel and Hezbollah, sources told CNN.

Nasrallah is dead.

Hezbollah and Iran said he was safe.

How long did they think they could maintain the lie?

Israel didn't just guess that Nasrallah was in the bunker. Israel knew he was. Just like they knew Ismail Haniyeh was in the apartment, down to the room he was staying in.

Hezbollah, the IRGC, they leak worse than a sieve. It won't be long until the next leaders are dealt with.

Obviously there are people in Iran who hate the Iranian regime and those in Lebanon who hate Hezbollah.
