48 hours of 'confusion' on negative gearing this week has damaged Labor's brand

Confusion ?

Because the PM and Treasurer refused to be prematurely 'cornered'  on answering a question yet- to have even been discussed. in Cabinet ?

Journalists should really stick to writing on matters they UNDERSTAND.
I thought it was from SKY TV, initially

It's the shifty double-speak of the PM denying that they initiated the Treasury Dept modelling request and the dodgy way Albo tried to weasel around it that damaged Labor.

Once again, Albo exposed as being a shifty ratbag.  Wink

I'm not involved with negative gearing but I reckon rents would INCREASE if they messed with negative gearing.

It MAY, initially
But it would also take HOMES out of the INVESTMENT zone - and into the hands of real HOMEBUYERS.

Existing arrangements should be 'grandfathered' and future negative gearing ONLY allowed on NEW BUILDS.
With the SAME for any first home buyers' grants - on new builds, only - with a new assessment a few years down the track.

This should ensure a smooth transition, with minimum 'jolts'

I reckon Labor has more votes to lose than to gain by tinkering with Negative Gearing.

Dutton must be hoping they go ahead with it.

NO GST ring a bell  Cheesy

"No cuts to education, health, or the ABC and SBS, and no changes to pensions"

YES, that was a RIPPER, by Tony Abbot !
(be was told by Alan Jones to lie, or he'd probably lose the election, with both of them confirming this, years later)

... and they had the GAUL to call Gillard a LIAR over her
"There will be no carbon tax over any government I lead" statement

(
... and a carbon tax it WASN'T, but an Emissions TRADING SCHEME, which is a vastly different mechanism)

However John Howard took the GST to an election.  And won!

Howard had promised to never take it to an election and he would have never been PM had he told the truth about the GST in 1996.

It was his commitment to never ever introduce a GST that gave him a chance of becoming PM in 1996, without that commitment he was finished.

So policies can change, but they shouldn't do it before an election? Roll Eyes

Just like the png 600 million rugby league team.

None of this is going too happen!!!!

It’s just Albo talking poo to distract everyone from the real issues.

Cost of living and not just supermarkets?

Why does every government fee, levy, tax go up in this cost of living crisis?

In Howard's words - there are core and non-core promises..... he didn't lie - didn't take the GST to an election... same as Albo didn't lie about the extent and impact of his 'voice' proposal ... what he was holding up WAS just a simple one page request ..... and about his oath to accept the word of the people and not push the states to do it behind the people's backs...he just went ahead and worked it out for the states to do.  No lie involved.... just a total lack of truth.

You can't trust a single one of them.

The rock solid guarantee was that it wouldn't change. Not even before an election - it was a never ever GST. Without the guarantee in 1996 he would have never ever been able to take it to an election because he would have never ever been PM to be able do it.

There is zero commonality between the GST and the Voice. There was never a commitment to not do the voice.

The fixed carbon price was a very good policy. Julia stuffed up when she made the agreement she believed it wasn't a carbon tax. She was wrong and paid for that error. Funny thing is that it didn't have to be a tax at all, it was only the stupid way it was implemented. The same policy could have been implemented as not a tax. it was a very close call. The vast majority never even understood why it was a tax.

Even Tony Abbott and Peta Credlin admitted it wasn't a carbon tax.
