Egypt's Army Masses In Sinai

The ostensible reason is to quell militant activity. However, the militant activity would not need 100,000 men to quell.

The real reason is that Israel has been seeking a justification to invade the Sinai to close off the Egyptian end of the Gaza tunnels. Egypt will not allow such a violation of their sovereignty.

Egypt has a reason to allow the Gaza tunnels to exist to not only allow the entry of additional fighters to Hamas forces, but to allow weapons and munitions to enter. Also, Egyptian military leaders will be making money from the tunnels.

It is likely that Israeli black ops forces killed the 16 Egyptian soldiers because there were no casualties in that event of non-military people or any other people at all which suggests a kill efficiency beyond the capabilities of Sinai militants.

The deployments -- the first of their kind since 1973 -- come after Egyptian state television reported that military helicopters and soldiers killed 20 militants early on August 9.

Egypt's new Islamist president, Muhammad Morsi, has vowed retaliation in Sinai for a militant ambush on August 5 that killed 16 Egyptian soldiers.

There are Egyptian army Masses in Sinai. The Coptic Catholic Church is an Eastern Catholic Church and uses the Coptic Rite and the Coptic language (derived from Ancient Egyptian) in its liturgy for Mass. The conscription of young Coptic Christians into the Egyptian army began around 1857 during the reign of Khedive Saeed.
