A man has a placard showing a swastika on an Israel flag as a Palestinian protest. He is convicted for 'knowingly display Nazi flags or memorabilia that bears swastikas without a reasonable excuse'. His action was the direct opposite of what the law applies to. The placard is shown on TV news so the media and the government minister for communication would also be liable. Any image of it on Ozpol can send you to jail, if it's seen on your pc.
OK. This is pretty offensive to Jews, and I don't think they're a protected class. It's just offensive.
Added to that, is that the display of the swastika other than in a historical treatise, should be simply illegal. Australia should be like Germany and make all Nazi or neo-Nazi symbols illegal.
Hell we ban bikie symbols. They're just bikies, they beat a few people up, they deal in drugs and guns. They're momma's boys compared to actual Nazis.
A bit of oppression is justified, to prevent the ultimate oppression. Let them squeal about the freedom of expression. If they really think free speech matters more than the rights of other people to not be intimidated, perhaps they should bugger off to America.
