The Sydney Morning Herald reported Jones, 83, was the subject of an investigation by a dedicated police taskforce over nine months. The Herald previously published a lengthy investigation detailing multiple allegations of indecent assault; several men accused him of preying on them while he held positions of power as a teacher and a broadcaster.

Jones has repeatedly denied those allegations. In December, he threatened to sue the Herald, which is published by Nine Entertainment, the owner of The Australian Financial Review and 2GB.
Men interviewed by the Herald, including former 2GB employees – Jones hosted a high-rating breakfast program for almost two decades –
had alleged they had been groped, grabbed and kissed.
In a statement on Monday, NSW Police said detectives in the child abuse squad had “arrested a man following an investigation into alleged indecent assault and sexual touching offences spanning two decades”.
The taskforce, Strike Force Bonnefin, had investigated “a number of alleged indecent assaults and sexual touching incidents between 2001 and 2019”, the police said, adding that a man had been arrested on Monday.
Earlier this year, Jones said he was taking an extended break from hosting his right-wing online talk show – which started after he left 2GB and Sky News – to overcome “urgent health issues”. He has not returned to the online show, on Australian Digital Holdings TV.
“Contrary to what has been written about me, I have been home for some time, consulting with doctors,” he said. His specialist, he said, had rated his current health as “poor”, Jones told News Corp at the time.
