The long, long arm of......technology ?

Ryland Headley, of Clarence Road, Ipswich, UK, is,
in 2024, 92 years old.

Back in 1967 Ryland Headley was a sprightly, 35 years old.

But in 2024, Ryland Headley......has been charged with the 'historic' rape and murder of an elderly woman,
Louisa Dunne, who at the time [in 1967] was 75 years old.

Q.
I'm wondering,......was Ryland Headley [first] linked
to the death of Louisa Dunne, in 1967, by AI ?

Man, 92, charged with woman's 1967 rape and murder

BBC News, Bristol

    20 November 2024

A 92-year-old man has been charged with the rape and murder of an elderly woman in a case that has remained cold for nearly six decades.

Louisa Dunne, 75, was found strangled on her living room floor by a neighbour on Brittania Road in Easton, Bristol, on 28 June 1967.

Ryland Headley, of Clarence Road, Ipswich, appeared before magistrates via video link and was remanded into custody ahead of an appearance at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday.

I'd say it was due to far more sophisticated DNA testing.

AI isn't what most people think it is.

DNA has proven to be unreliable

Probably:

Avon and Somerset Police said the charge comes after they began reviewing the case in 2023, prompting further forensic examination of some items.

Another possibility: records have been made electronic, making them easier to search, making it easier to look for similar MO's. That could be a good job for AI.
