Nothing really.

I suspect the idea was to make an impression on newcomers and give them the idea that OzPolitic is a 'huge' forum with all these sub-boards.

If there were only a few boards to choose from it would look kinda boring. For example:

This was a huge forum 20 years ago (I'm still a member but I haven't posted for years) but it has been dying off over the past 10 years (social media also has a lot to do with it no doubt) but it really doesn't look very impressive to any newcomers.

So it's just padding

Look at Fringe - dozens of thread on Israel by LTYC that nobody else bothers with. Moderated by Sad. What's the point there?

Or Defence, where only Bbwian posts ABC headlines. What's the point of that?

Political Parties - should be one board ( or incorporated into Federal Politics)

I agree with FD there should be a variety of moderating styles so let Brian plug away. There should not be idiots modding boards—like NotTheEnvironment. Just see how far behind in posts that is to Relationshits.

I DO like the idea of a Tavern, given Relationshits is just anything rather than relationships. Could be merged with my board—Tavern Critters is better than the present name which is, basically, Critters and Critters. That would also reduce the front page a bit.

Frank’s idea re Party boards is sound.

Absolutely nothing. You may not have read the history I posted which is 100% accurate.

Agnes was the initial Mod of Relationships. She did a "I don't want this any more," and I was appointed Mod by FD.

Then, a little time later she wanted her own MRB. So, inexplicably, FD agreed and gave her a new MRB and she wanted it called "The Tavern," and so it happened. Then, she did another "I don't want this any more," and bequeathed modship to AiA. Despite my bitchings to FD about how totally unsuitable AiA was, he was allowed to become the Mod.

Then, he was banned for exactly the reasons I initially gave to FD about him. After a now deceased Poster, he was the www's most malicious and deliberate doxxer.

So, AiA's departure/permanent ban meant there needed to be a new Mod for The Tavern. Agnes nominated. Monk went out of his way to lobby Members with PMs and he conned them into voting for Agnes over Grappler. Agnes won.

Lo and behold, as predicted in public by me during that election, she has now done her third "I don't want this any more," and here we are.

What would I know, ey?

The Tavern is what the Moderator maketh of it.
It's really the Moderators Mod Board and haven't we seen the worst of Moderation from it so far.
Will it get another dysfunctional Mod?
Or has the pressure cooker finally whistled and times have changed?

So far, it's shown the worst of Moderation.
Maybe it's cursed. Maybe greedy and selfish Monk should get it, like catching worms?

Maybe it is indeed all about 'the Mod' and we'll see someone amazing get voted in and show us all what cool Moderation is and give it personality and character.

The Tavern 'is' what the Moderator maketh of it.
That's the challenge of it. Wink
