Just got back from a shopping center this arvo.
There was a Mr Minute shop - the ones that cut keys -
that had Swiss Army knives for sale.

No sign that it was illegal to carry such a knife on your key ring.
Even the smallest ones are illegal.
He had a super tiny one for $69 with only a 4cm blade.
Still illegal and would get you one year in prison.

Swiss army knives like most other knives are not illegal what is illegal is to carry them without just cause.

A farmer quite often carries a pocket knife, in a sheath on his belt [some belts have a horizontal sheath built into the belt], but he would be well advised to remove the knife before going to town because being in town removes the legitimate reason for having it.

Remember Sheath Knives are banned under the NFA; one presumes that ‘sheath knife’ means a knife with a sheath.

You’re right, Bobby, I just read the NFA again; I must have got confused with the NSW laws, I did find that, in that State a sheath knife is one that the sheath retracts into the handle on the press of a button, either spring assisted or by other means.

In NSW it's the 1998 Weapons Prohibition act that outlaws certain knives, nunchakus and slingshots which haven't been used for self defence since David slew Goliath.

Mens’ deodorant sprays are good defensive weapons and can be carried at all times and places.
