The Dark Side of Joe Rogan's Gullibility
Dec 4th, 2024 at 7:37am

During the Trump interview, Rogan referred to 'The View' panel and how they all loved Trump before he ran for office - to which Trump agreed and added more to the story.

Rogan said he couldn't play the clip to prove it due to possible copyright issues. He had watched the clip, himself, however.

However, Whoopi Goldberg, who Rogan had named as one who'd hugged Trump, did release the clip.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dZqb7WXoY8

Rogan -  less than 30 seconds into the Trump interview:

“One of the things I wanted to talk to you about… I wanted to play this but we decided we shouldn’t play it because [we don’t want a copyright strike]…

“It was the episode of you when you were on ‘The View’… And I think it was 2015 or 20…6… like.. it was when you were running for president.

And you got introduced as ‘our friend Donald Trump’. Whoopi Goldberg gives you a big hug and a kiss, Joy Behar gives you a big hug. Barbara Walters gives you a big hug. They all loved you…

“They were talking about you in such a favourable light, The audience was cheering…”

“And then you actually started winning in the polls and then the machines started working towards you…”

So, given that Rogan knew the clip was from March 2011, not 2015 or 2016, and that Trump was not greeted with 'hugs and love', he knew he was misrepresenting 'The View' clip.

Also, given Rogan is usually careful with similar clips in other episodes, he was probably instructed to use the clip as 'evidence' that Trump was roundly loved just before running for president.

Even Rogan would know how untrue that was, particularly in New York.

Well, they all kissed and hugged him, including Whoopsy.
The audience was ecstatic.
Trump was introduced as Barbara's friend, with acknowledging his possible presidential aspirations. So no secrets there.
Whoopsy was upset because Trump said O'bama should release his birth cert coz no white prez has ever been asked to. Well, no white prez was half Kenyan and brought up in Indonesia.

So 2015 or 2011? Irrelevant to the points.

All the 'hugs and kisses' from 'The View' panel are known as 'stage kisses' usually between men and women - as an expression of professional politeness, not genuine emotion. Rogan, of course, knows this, having been an actor and commentator for decades.

Rogan specifically mentioned that the clip was from 2015/2016 and that the love only stopped when 'the machines started working towards [Trump]', misrepresenting the panel's presenters' attitude towards Trump's actual presidential run by 4 years.

Adding to Rogan's timing misrepresentation is that Trump had mouthed off about running for president since the 90s.

Rogan, of course, was also aware of this.

Trump withdrew his candidacy in May 2011.

When he finally announced his candidacy in June 2015, he immediately met with anger and contempt when he derided Mexicans in his candidacy speech, so Rogan's misrepresenting the timing of his 'The View' interview as recorded during 2015/2016 is particularly revealing of the intent of Rogan's misrepresentation.

Why bother?  Just another useless political hack same as we've got too many of here in our major parties.  I'm down to one politician, maybe two, that I have any time for.

What makes it relevant is that Rogan is the most popular and influential podcaster representing the so-called 'New Media', and who prides himself on 'getting to the truth' - despite his conspiracy theory obsession.

Most importantly, if anyone imagines that the 'new media' will ultimately be any more honest and journalistically diligent than the so-called 'Legacy Media', is deluded.

Also 'new media' presenters are quick to hide behind the defence that 'they are not journalists' when they're called out on bullshit, just 'someone who's just asking questions' - something that professional journalists cannot do.

I watched the video and at the 3 min mark Whoopie tells Trump she loves him.

But I guess her take is she was full of hatred even in 2011.

In all reality if it was 11/15/16 makes no difference and is a bit like organizing the deck chairs on a sinking ship.

Is that your experience of someone expressing love, then?

No its my ability to watch a video and hear the sound. Having said that I only have 35% hearing in my left ear and I wear glasses so you need to take that into account.

OK... well, when you're on a TV panel, it used to be common practice to use polite vernacular that mirrors the guest's.

Trump first told Goldberg that 'he loved her'. Of course, he didn't mean it in the deepest sense... Goldberg snapped back in kind without looking at him and then went on to berate him about his Obama birther conspiracy.

So, not an expression of genuine love.

I reckon what's left of your hearing and sight should be enough to confirm that, unless, maybe, you've never heard the term from a non-bot.

So what are you saying. Whoopie didn't say she loved Trump around the three minute mark?.

No he doesn't he just lets people talk.

Listen more carefully.

Rogan often parrots stuff he thinks experts he's -previously interviewed have told him. He often gets it arse backwards.

He's at his dumbest when his guests seem to offer him some bait to continue his belief that aliens are watching us. That and any of his conspiracies and out-there beliefs.

He loves the interviewees who plug whacko conspiracy theories - like Bob Lazar or Tom O'Neill.
