The Japanese were morons.

The UK sent one battleship, one battlecruiser and four destroyers to intercept the Japanese invasion fleet in the South China Sea north of Malaya. The task force sailed without air support. Although the British had a close encounter with Japanese heavy surface units, the force failed to find and destroy the main convoy. On their return to Singapore they were attacked in open waters and sunk by long-range torpedo bombers. The commander of Force Z, Admiral Sir Tom Phillips, elected to maintain radio silence and an alert was not sent (by the Repulse) until one hour after the first Japanese attack.

With the attack on Pearl Harbor only two days earlier, on the other side of the International Date Line, the Malayan engagement illustrated the effectiveness of aerial attacks against even the heaviest of naval assets if they were without air cover.  The sinking of the two ships severely weakened the British Eastern Fleet in Singapore,  Singapore itself fell to the Japanese on 15 February, leading to the largest surrender in British history.

(they failed to make any defences for Singapore).

The Japanese had no chance against the Allies. Nor the Germans.

Ideology doomed both Japan and Germany.

And it was both their great luck that they were defeted by the Allies.
There would not have been an Anglo American industrial miracle after 1945 had the Nazis and Japs prevailed.

And here is Bbwian, talking rubbish DESPITE all indications that he is a moron.

The Japanese believed in their superiority to all others because their Bushido (or rather their version of it) beliefs told them they were.  The Germans believed they were superior because they were supposedly Aryans (which they weren't).  In reality they were stupid in their neo-Feudal beliefs of their superiority.  Both the Germans and the Japanese were failures because they placed too great an emphasis on martial ability and spirit.  The Allies placed an emphasis on scientific ability.  The Allies won.  Soren, feels his supposed "Race" is superior to all others and ignores scientific reality that he's basically the same as everybody else.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

But they both had a chance against Australia and UK, as in Singapore, Burma and north Africa.
The 'industrial miracle' refers to Germany.
You can say they were morons if that lets you feel happy. Facts won't then disturb you.

Darwin was a pinprick, Bobby.  It had essentially a null effect on how the war was conducted and it simply showed how unprepared we were for a Japanese attack.  It joined all the other attacks at Broome, Sydney, Newcastle, Cooktown, as a waste of time and resources.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

pin prick?

nonsense - it was part of over 100 major attacks.   Roll Eyes

What affect did it have on the strategy of how the war was conducted?  Any, at all?  No, I didn't think so.  Tsk, tsk, tsk... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Insufficient information -
but no doubt it reduced our already tiny military capability.

Now have a think about this..

How many “Events” have been “staged” in the last 120+ years so that the US could enter wars illegally and illegally enter a sovereign country to kill millions of innocent people and then take their wealth…

I’ll start… Vietnam was one… The Gulf Of Tonkin Incident..

Oh.. whats that other word im thinking of..  Undecided

And here’s another question - how many times are we going to fall for it?

The Japanese were backed into a corner and they came out swinging …

They were fearless fighters winning many many battles - particularly on land…

Milne Bay (southeastern tip of Papua New Guinea) Was their first defeat on land - by the Australians - no less - before this the Japanese Army had a reputation as being invincible ….

So yeah…. They basically made it to our doorstep  - and YOU would be a FOOL if you take them lightly…

Do your homework people…

The thing that brought down the Japanese was “Supply Routs”

And Army can’t march on an empty stomach - Supply lines started to fail and the Japanese were forced to start eating Soldiers and Civilians who had been killed ..

The Japanese were also partially cruel…

But then again - so were allied forces… at times

Spot on Phil …

And they talk about 4000 Americans dying (needlessly) then there’s also the people of Iraq —- some say at least a MILLION men, women, and children…

Imagine that…

Then they keep throwing around Wank Words like Existential Threat - that’ll convince everyone to INVADE yet another sovereign country…

And you need not look any further than the Civilian Contracts that got awarded by the Bush Government that DID NOT go to tender…

I just shake my head for those poor innocent people and can imagine how much they hate our guts…  Undecided

US Defense budget 2023 was $820 billion which does a lot of good for suppliers such as potato farmers. There are 2.86 million people who need their potatoes.
