Why it takes so long
Dec 10th, 2024 at 11:16am

Intergration into non islamic communities is hard for new generation muslims because even though they are born or migrate here very young they are caught between two cultures.

Being brought up in a muslim family they have to abide by the rules and laws of islam which at times is opposed to our rules and laws. This is very confusing and unfair on these people.

This puts them in a position where they are taught different values to the rest of the community and find it hard when what they are taught by their parents is ridiculed by others. Conversely they also ridicule others due to their teachings.

As with other cultures that have settled in Australia it will take time to assimulate into the community but it will be harder because the differences are far larger.

There are no rules or laws within Islam that conflict with Australian law, Leroy.  I have served with, studied with and worked with numerous Islamic immigrants and they have had no trouble adjusting to Australian laws or customs.  It is all in the attitude of the migrants.  How many Muslims do you know personally?  Any at all?  Find a Muslim and talk to them honestly and they will respond in a similar manner.  The Koran instructs Muslims that they must obey the laws of the land they live in.  The majority do so.

I do know many muslims through work, sport and friends. I do know that many find openly gay people uncomfortable, some find womens dress standards uncomfortable.

I'm not here to disrespect muslims but in my experience they do have a hard time balancing their beliefs with the average Australian. If this was not true we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Are you muslim Brian?.

Why does that worry you, Leroy?  What if I am?  My religion is my own and my business alone.  So, you claim to know many Muslims. I wonder why I wonder if that is true or not? Most Islamophobes know none.  I know I'm unusual because I've known so many over the decades.  I have served with them in the Australian Army, I have studied with them at the Defence Academy,  I have worked with them in various positions as a Computer technician.  All were good people and none of them had any problems fitting into Australian culture.  You haven't told us where you knew your Muslims and where they came from originally. Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I have told you where I have contact with muslims.

Your reaction to call me islamophobic without any reason at all suggests you feel uncomfortable by my question.

Have a great day Ross.

We are not going to have a civil conversation so its best if you just call me some names now and that will be the end of it OK.

Totally irrelevant for forming a view of Islam or any religion or ideology. Totally irrelevant.  But you make this point- and only this one - in defence of Islam.

Oh, dearie, dearie, me, Soren or should I call you "Leroy"?  Anyway, it is the perfect antidote to your Islamophobia. It betrays the lies you love to tell about Muslims/Jews/Catholics/Buddhists/Mormons/etc.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

You haven't studied, served, worked with German Nazis or Italian or Francoist Fascists, nor any soviet communists, any Pol Potists etc, etc - yet I suspect you reject Nazism, fascism, soviet comunist ideology.
Or am I wrong? You suspend judgement on them until you have worked, studied and served with such people and discussed their thoughts on their beliefs?

Actually, "Leroy" (I note you don't deny the name), I've discussed matters with their modern adherents on numerous occasions, in numerous situations.  Unlike you, I am open to discussion on many subjects and beliefs, which is why I am popular amongst people, compared to you, "Leroy".  I actually went out with a dedicated Communist for a few months at one stage and I've known a few neo-Nazis over the years.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
