Australians in suspected alcohol poisoning at Fiji resort

Australians from two families are among a group of resort guests fighting for life after a suspected mass alcohol poisoning on Fiji’s Coral Coast.

Seven people fell seriously ill after drinking cocktails at a bar in the five-star Warwick Resort on Saturday night, local media reported.

They included four Australian tourists, an American tourist and two foreigners who live in Fiji.

The victims were rushed to Sigatoka Hospital with “nausea, vomiting, and neurological symptoms”, Fijivillage.com reported.

They were all later transferred to Lautoka Hospital because of the severity of the symptoms.

The victims are reportedly aged between 18 and 56.

The ABC said two of the Australians were critical, with a 56-year-old woman under constant surveillance in hospital and a 19-year-old woman experiencing serious medical episodes.

Two other Australian women — a 49-year-old and an 18-year-old — were still critical, but not as serious, reported the ABC.

Police and health officials are investigating the incident as alleged alcohol poisoning.

It's becoming an art form this poisoning of Aussie tourists - you can't drink the local beer - see Ba Me Ba - and you take your life in your hands asking for a prepared drink even if it's in an opened bottle or maybe even when it's not but is locally produced, even on licence.

That reminds me - looking for a new house - always check the tap water.... even our tap water can taste like it's been poured through an Afghan's Arse...

This isn’t a backpackers…. It’s a 5 star resort? !!!!

Just how long has this sort of crap been happening that it’s not been reported until now?

Even unopened bottles can’t be trusted… it could be opened and recapped later (like how we Europeans make our sauce in them old thicker beer bottles that’s re-used for next batch and easily recapped with the right equipment)

So….maybe the only trustworthy drink is in cans?

Worth a thought from here on! Undecided

It’s so very very wrong and very concerning!
Those poor unsuspecting people going on a hard earned holiday, only to be poisoned by greed.
My thoughts and prayers are with them and hope no one dies or suffers long term.

It’s so very very wrong and very concerning!
Those poor unsuspecting people going on a hard earned holiday, only to be poisoned by greed.
My thoughts and prayers are with them and hope no one dies or suffers long term.

Metho can cause blindness - it's so dangerous.
