Within a week or two after arriving here I started looking for duck eggs.
Duck eggs are not just larger than chicken eggs they are richer and tastier. So visited a fine food shop. No duck eggs. Supermarkets—no duck eggs. Damn!
Yesterday morning I took the mutt for a walk, choosing a route that went along an edge of the town rather than in it. A sign saying “Chocolates!” got my attention.
Entering the temporary shop I looked at the chocolates/baked products without much interest. Then I noticed a little display on the side—eggs and a closer look DUCK EGGS! Yeah!
In my fridge now is a dozen duck eggs that cost me just $5!!!
Was it not for the dog and the need to walk Fido daily I would never have found the source of duck eggs!
Hmmm the eggs are in a carton previously used to hold chook eggs—reusing cartons is a no no.
I will type a note and bung it in the “honesty box” to arrange an ongoing supply of duck eggs. Heaven!
Breakfast:
Dry roasted cherry tomatoes
Asparagus spears wrapped in prosciutto and added to the tray with the cherry tomatoes for the last 15 minutes of the dry roasting.
Nice big mushroom stuffed with a herby filling also roasted 15 minutes.
Poached duck egg
A slice of toast to sop up all the delicious juices hmmmmm!
That, my friends, is a breakfast of champions.
Thanks Socks!
