Why Musk Is Wrong About Mars

Why Musk Is Wrong About Mars

Elon Musk wants to build a colony on Mars with at least 1 million people.
While this might sound like an exciting and worthwhile goal,
many prominent voices in science are skeptical about it.
What does Musk want to do, what are the problems,
and why is he facing criticism? Here’s a brief summary.

The clock, is about to tick over to 2025 CE

PLANET EARTH......
8 billion [consuming] humans, and counting.......

If the elites could simply devise some plan,
which would reduce the human population on earth,
to around 500 million,
we could all 'kick back',
and live comfortable lives,

.......and leave the colonisation of other planets to fools like Elon.

[p.s.     bobby.....i haven't watched that YT yet.]

You'd have to be crazy to want to live on Mars.

The water they found is full of perchlorate - poisonous.

No magnetic field.

No atmosphere to breathe - you'd need a space suit to walk outside ......

We need to become a space fairing species or we will go extinct. Musk is not wrong, it is when we go and are we ready. We need to try, many will die but we need to do this.

White people scared of darkies. They're fleeing to another planet because they can't compete here. The white diaspora to Mars.

Mars needs a sizeable satellite like Ceres to stimulate a magnetic field, core heat, tectonic movement and basically an ability to sustain life. Trillions of dollars spent trying to scratch an existence on that lump of crap as it currently is, is madness.
Can't even live sustainably underwater or in the Antarctic yet, so the whole Mars colony thing is a huge premature ejaculation and nothing but a propaganda scam to get more money for NASA.

Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids -
in fact it's cold as hell.

I total agree with the fact that Mars is less hospitable than even the toughest environment on earth however we need to find a way.

We send Robots to build what we need before we go for example.

Also we will take life with us, not just us.

The key is always Energy, with Energy we can do a lot.

True but consider this.

If life is not so easy to create/evolve. The chances of life evolving to be able to leave their planet is even lower, I feel we have a duty to continue life and spread across the galaxy. Let's go, get on with it, a small step for man, a super big step for life... as we know it Scotty.

Detoxifying Mars: the biocatalytic elimination of omnipresent perchlorates

Jan 04, 2024

Lynn Rothschild
NASA Ames Research Center (ARC)

Water is the lifeblood of human survival and civilization and is critical for our sustained exploration beyond Earth. Fortunately, Mars has plenty of water to sustain our aspirations in the form of subsurface ice. Unfortunately, it is not clean water – it is contaminated by toxic perchlorates. Perchlorate and chlorate are potent oxidizers that cause equipment corrosion and are hazardous to human health even at low concentrations. It is therefore critical that Martian water be detoxified to remove these contaminating solutes before it can be used in propellant production, food production, or human consumption. The scale of anticipated water demand on Mars highlights the shortcomings of traditional water purification approaches, which require either large amounts of consumable materials, high electrical draw, or water pretreatment.

What if we could make the perchlorates just vanish? This is the innovative solution we propose here, taking advantage of the reduction of chlorate and perchlorate to chloride and oxygen being thermodynamically favorable, if kinetically slow. This is the promise of our regenerative perchlorate reduction system, leveraging synthetic biology to take advantage of and improve upon natural perchlorate reducing bacteria.

The fact is that is if Mars would have had:
rivers of fresh potable water,
an atmosphere of similar pressure to Earth with oxygen that we could breathe and
a magnetic field to protect from cosmic radiation,

then we would have already been there in the 1980s in large numbers.
We had the technology then to get there.

the question is -
how long will it take to terraform Mars so we could live there easily?

I would say - probably 1000s of years.

Mars died of any potential for life 4 billion plus years ago.
Life didn't even begin here back then.
It's a sterile world of rock and dust.
It never ever had life and besides wasting trillions of dollars and valuable resources to put guinea pigs there 'just because'  Scientists need to create more jobs and revenue, it's a big red herring.
Like I said. It needs a satellite the size of Ceres for starters, in orbit to create any variables needed to stimulate any possible activity.

I would also add that all the other hopefuls like Europa, Titan, Enceladus, etc are all lifeless. Nothing but dirt and sterile chemicals.

I don't believe that we would get it so easy to attain life on worlds right next door easy peasy. Even contaminating them with bacterium from here would be the slowest of evolutions beyond failing overall.

The real challenge of humanity, is not running away to other worlds for our survival. Not for a very long time, like 1000 years or more. But to find 'life immortal' here and improve the quality of life here. Such advancement of this planet, would inevitably lead to the right path earned - to venture afar... and it means very far indeed.

The Mars Colony propaganda and concept is just a continuation of the same narrative of Europeans venturing to the Americas, leaving craphole dying Europe behind.
It's the narrative of those who fled from the problem. Not face it.

At a guess. If there is a semblance of biological life, then I would say the binary of Pluto & Charon. Alas, I fear that such biology would be brought back here and it will cause a catastrophic mass extinction.

Life is dangerous. It can kill

Dear JaSin,
the chances are that we are all Martians -  why?

because conditions for life - for bacteria - were favorable before they were here
4 billion years ago.
Also when an asteroid hits Mars it can knock pieces of Mars rock into space -
that can eventually land on Earth.
Many such rocks have been found in the ice in Antarctica (but no bacteria detected yet.)
Life could have been transported here from Mars. ( and vice versa)

Bacteria could still be living on Mars if only we could drill down deeply to find them.
We would know if they were similar to us if they used DNA like us.
DNA would allow us to trace the history and see if Earth's life came from Mars.
