Jimmy Carter, the 39th US president, dies at age 100.

• Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, has died at age 100. Carter was “surrounded by his family” at his home in Plains, Georgia, in his final moments, the Carter Center said in a statement Sunday.

• President Joe Biden said Carter “stands as a model of what it means to live a life of meaning and purpose,” and remembered Carter as a “dear friend.” President-elect Donald Trump said Americans owe the former president “a debt of gratitude.” Preparations are underway for a state funeral.

• Carter was a peanut farmer and US Navy lieutenant before going into politics, eventually serving one term as governor of Georgia and as president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was the only former US president to reach 100 years old.

• Rosalynn Carter, the former president’s wife of more than 75 years, who was known for her mental health advocacy and humanitarian work, died in November 2023 at 96. The Carters were the longest-married presidential couple in US history.

Mr. Carter’s early career as a submariner began after he graduated from the Naval Academy as a member of the class of 1947, which finished its studies a year early because of the pressures of World War II. He served for six years before returning to Georgia.

Mr. Carter is the only Naval Academy graduate to win the presidency, though many have tried in the years since he occupied the Oval Office.

Jimmy Carter wanted to be a good man but his liberalism got in the way. He was a weak President that cause a lot of death and danger all over the World. He should have supported the Shah of Iran, he didn't and we had our Embassy seized and Americans held hostage for 444 days. He offered to surrender to the Soviet Union to prevent an all out nuclear war but Congress wouldn't approve. The Media called it unilateral disarmament. During his term the dollar lost half of its value so everything including houses and motor vehicles doubled in price.
