Maybe it was the sign of disrespect Carter deserved in return for the way he spoke about President Trump during his last years. I don't think any of the past Presidents actually mourned carter, it was just their duty to be there. Kamala and the Pence couple were very disrespectful to the Trumps.

So, you're saying that the US should support murderous dictators... as it did with the Shah and General Pinochet of Chile (after murdering the democratically elected Chilean president)?

Mossadegh's 'sin' was to announce that he intended to nationalise Iran's oil industry, which was controlled by the British - that was the reason the British wanted him gone. The US CIA was 'invited' by the British to assist with his overthrow.

The upshot of overthrowing Mossadegh and supporting the Shah was that the US ended up with the majority of control over the Iranian oil industry.

At the time of Mossadegh's overthrow, the CIA was barely 6 years old and had not descended into the nation-meddling organisation it became by Nixon's Administration.

Mossadegh's overthrow was effectively the first overthrow operation the CIA could claim 'credit' for... and it ran with it.

By the start of Carter's administration in 1977, the CIA had meddled in the affairs of nation-states throughout South America, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East at its pleasure.

Like JFK before him, Carter was disgusted by CIA overreach - which extended beyond presidential authority - and attempted to crush its arrogated sense of seniority over the president, Congress, and the judiciary. This prompted his pledge to US allies to end CIA interference in their internal affairs.
