Fascists can be different. I'd argue Mussolini was just a self-obsessed grifter. His conversion from socialism was a part of that. He saw he could get the Catholics on board if he went right wing. I don't think there was much more to Mussolini than a power grab.

Hitler was an ideological zealot. He had dangerous beliefs. I'm not sure if you could call a project to purify the German blood principles, but sure, he was more ethically consistent than Mussolini.

Trump has less ideological interest than either. That alone makes him dangerous - he has no principles at all. I imagine some could suggest he represents a form of pragmatic American fascism, but no, he sings to the Christians just like Mussolini.

Also like Mussolini, Trump has been able to unite these disparate forces - the Bernie voters, the Bible belt, the aspirational Hispanic, Cuban and even Mexican voters. He's even helped to steer the Bible Belt's move from what was once a band of conservative evangelicals towards a new form of Christian white nationalism.

Trump himself hasn't done this, Christian TV has, just like Fox News got him the working class. By the time Rupert soured on MAGA in 2021 it was too late. Fox News were happy to pay nearly a billion in defamation payouts to keep the audience on side. This is despite what Tucker and everybody else at Fox were saying about loathing him with a passion after Jan 6.

You'd expect Rupert to make a business decision like that, but the pastors and CTV? There's no precedent for the Bible Belt's descent into full-blown fascism, not even in the 1930s. The Christians have gone from being refugee-loving Billy Graham evangelicals to full-blown haters.

Many are from Central and South America themselves. No one hates refugees like established immigrants, each migrant wave looking down on the new arrivals, in spite of their typically generous, working class Christian values.

Trump has been able to exploit this cognitive dissonance like plenty of other third world dictators, but he's an outlier in America. Urban Americans are genuinely open and welcoming people. They value immigration too, and for good pragmatic reasons. Out of all the things that have made America great, it's mass immigration. Even George Bush knew this, and was careful never offend such a valuable voting block. Trump has been able to have his cake and eat it, appealing to aspirational migrants for their vote, and dumping on illegals eating cats and dogs.

Mexicans in Mexico hate him. In the US, it's a little more complicated. Either way, Trump is the most successful American fascist since Huey Long in the 1930s.

The thing is, MAGA can only function under Trump. When he goes, MAGA goes. The Republicans don't own Trump, he owns them.

Huey Long, by the way, was a Democrat. As you pointed out about Mussolini, left and right can be permeable distinctions when it comes to fascism.

SEND THEM BACK !!!

He's not though.  He just isn't, no matter how many times you tell yourself he is.

He's the quintessential loser.

Everything he touches turns to
s
hit.

He loses casinos, money, businesses, wives, court cases, appeals, hair, business associates, political partners, etc. like nobody else in the world has ever done.

The only way he can have sex is if he pays someone or rapes them.

His daughter - the one he wants to
f
uck - despises him and wants nothing more to do with him.

In order to make money, he has to resort to selling Chinese Bibles on the internet.

By calling him a winner it shows us all that you have learned absolutely nothing over the last eight years.

You need to study him a bit more - I suggest another five years.

He was not elected by the majority of voters, and he has no power.

Musk is at the controls, and Trump is his bitch.

Once again, Trump loses.

This is typical of the grimacing dry wank karnal displays here year in year out.

Vlad is where he is thanks to Obama, who is now finishing his 3rd or 4th term, thank God.
Vlad invaded Crimea on Barrack Hussein Obama's watch. The Syrian war started on his watch. He made the deal with the mullahs of Iran that enabled cashed-up Iran to build up Hamas, Hezbollah and the rest. Etc, etc. The first Kenyan president of the free world ****ed things up good and proper.
But the Karnal and gweggy turd, dna and the rest, blind from decades of dry wanking, are bleating about Trump, Vlad and being farmed. Stupid old blind bastards.

This is fantastic News Frank

The danger to the conservative side was always that the left wood would learn from their mistakes and coarse correct

But this does not appear to be happening

We must be gratefulFor their arrogance

It means the conservative side will continue to go from strength to strength Smiley Smiley

I'm not sure which is funnier here?

Frank's apparently steadily rising blood pressure (and lame insults) or aquascoot's usual 'assault' on the English language (wood would learn, coarse correct, gratefulFor).

And don't blame your phone.

I guess we should at least be grateful for the fact it isn't one of his usual nonsensical word salads?

And the points elude you as the long day wears on and the years go by, Carl. But as Tom Jones sang all these years ago, it's not unusual.  Not with you, not karnal, gweggy turd, duckbrain mcwaddle and the rest of the gang of silly old two bit screamers.

Diddums Franko, just have a smile at the picture I conjured up. Your blood pressure must be skyhigh. Get a dog, walk it twice a day, pat it often and that blood pressure will get back to normal.

We all make typos, Franko.

Don't want to say, is it?

All good, you get that. The farmees rarely want to confess.

You'll always have Vlad, no?

The reality is that we are witnessing the complete and total unraveling of the disastrous foreign policy that began under Obama and was picked up again by Biden, the perverse effect of which was to strengthen both Iran and Russia.

The series of blunders that consigned Syria to a hideous and protracted civil war and opened the door to Russia in both Syria and Ukraine began between July 2012 and August 2013, when the White House said that if Assad used chemical weapons he would be deemed to have “crossed a red line.” The regime used chemical weapons anyway. And the White House’s threat was empty; in August 2013, Obama decided to call off the planned retaliatory air strikes.

Worse, Obama then allowed the Russian government to broker a deal under which Assad handed over (some of) his chemical weapons. On September 10, 2013, Obama announced that the United States was no longer the “world’s policeman.” Five months later, Russian troops occupied Crimea, the annexation of which followed on March 18. In September 2015, President Vladimir Putin sent not only three dozen aircraft but also 1,500 troops to Latakia, Syria, and warships to the Caspian Sea.

On Obama’s watch, Putin established himself not only as the proud owner-occupier of the Crimean peninsula and a power broker in the Middle East but also as a troublemaker in Africa, hiring out the mercenaries of the Wagner Group to the nastiest regimes he could find south of the Sahara.

The signature achievement of Obama’s foreign policy was supposed to be his much-vaunted Iran deal. But the upshot of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action was that the Iranians took the money they made from sanctions relief and diverted it to the likes of Assad, Hamas, and Hezbollah.
