But Wisconsin law requires that the results of those absentee votes be reported all at once, Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe explained Wednesday.

“With that you’re going to get the result sets all as one, with all the absentees,” Wolfe said when asked about the overnight spike in vote totals.

According to The Associated Press, in Milwaukee, the state’s most populous area, the city didn’t finish counting its roughly 169,000 absentees until around 3 a.m.

When they did, Milwaukee police escorted the city’s elections director from a central counting location to the county courthouse to deliver thumb drives with the data, and it was immediately folded into the overall count.

This is pretty straight forward stuff, Frank.

That absentee ballot results from Milwaukee largely favored a Democratic candidate is also not irregular, Jacobs said, as the left-leaning city has historically voted blue.

“Milwaukee is an urban city that has consistently voted more Democratic than not,” Jacobs said. Democrats have won landslide victories in previous elections for both presidential and gubernatorial races in the city including in 2022, opens new tab, 2020, opens new tab, 2018, opens new tab and 2016, opens new tab.

2024 was won by Trump beyond the margin of steal that we saw in 2020.
Electoral law changes in the last 4 years, in response to the real and perceived cheating in 2020, have played a part.

This time we had a result on the night. in 2020 they were filling out Biden ballots for days and days after election day.

Also importantly, in my view, 4 years of Biden Harris purgatory evaporated any residual nostalgia for a 4th Obama term and also weeded out all the backstabbing never-Trumper Republicans who were active in 2016-20.
