Maybe it's just me (and if so, then so be it), but I wish we could just leave political correctness, reconciliation, gender equality, etc behind at just a few moments so that we can enjoy a few dates/events that are significant to the vast majority of us.
Why can't we celebrate Christmas without having the PC Brigade make a big thing of ensuring any celebrations are "inclusive"? Same goes for Easter. I find the position of the PC Brigade to be nothing short of ridiculous, given the fact that you don't go to a Muslim or Hindu or Jewish country/city/state and see them tone things down for fear of offending some other religious or racial or sexual orientation group.
The same goes for the New Years Eve event. Do we really need to have the ABC air yet another welcome to country ceremony before the NYE fireworks? I mean, the entire NYE event has nothing to do with religion or race or reconciliation or gender. It's purely scientific from the field of astronomy, based on the cycle of Earth completing a rotation around the sun once every 365 days. We have plenty of other days to raise awareness to the issues relating to Indigenous people, with many instances of days and even entire weeks dedicated to Indigenous causes. Can't we just have a few instances where we can all leave our issues behind and just enjoy life and enjoy some fireworks with our friends and family and have a bit of fun? Did there really need to be projections of Indigenous fisherwoman Barangaroo across the Harbour Bridge? Why couldn't we have just had a huge, impressive, non-racial, non-denominational, non-gender, non-everything fireworks display?
It would seem that, according to the PC Brigade running the ABC, we can not.
