NYE celebrations - Sydney
Jan 1st, 2025 at 4:34pm

Maybe it's just me (and if so, then so be it), but I wish we could just leave political correctness, reconciliation, gender equality, etc behind at just a few moments so that we can enjoy a few dates/events that are significant to the vast majority of us.

Why can't we celebrate Christmas without having the PC Brigade make a big thing of ensuring any celebrations are "inclusive"? Same goes for Easter. I find the position of the PC Brigade to be nothing short of ridiculous, given the fact that you don't go to a Muslim or Hindu or Jewish country/city/state and see them tone things down for fear of offending some other religious or racial or sexual orientation group.

The same goes for the New Years Eve event. Do we really need to have the ABC air yet another welcome to country ceremony before the NYE fireworks? I mean, the entire NYE event has nothing to do with religion or race or reconciliation or gender. It's purely scientific from the field of astronomy, based on the cycle of Earth completing a rotation around the sun once every 365 days. We have plenty of other days to raise awareness to the issues relating to Indigenous people, with many instances of days and even entire weeks dedicated to Indigenous causes. Can't we just have a few instances where we can all leave our issues behind and just enjoy life and enjoy some fireworks with our friends and family and have a bit of fun? Did there really need to be projections of Indigenous fisherwoman Barangaroo across the Harbour Bridge? Why couldn't we have just had a huge, impressive, non-racial, non-denominational, non-gender, non-everything fireworks display?

It would seem that, according to the PC Brigade running the ABC, we can not.

I don't get NYE celebrations, and I certainly don't get Australia's fascination with fireworks.

However, I agree with you - I voted 'yes'.

I'm the same - just another day for me really. But I do enjoy the fireworks, somewhat. Not as much as others, I'm sure. But surely everyone is entitled to at least one day off a year from all of our problems, right?

Absolutely.

NYE is just a day.  Literally, just another day.

It has no religious, cultural or political significance.

As I said, it's a day based purely on science - recognising that our planet has made one more revolution around the sun over the past 365 days. Nothing to do with gender, skin colour, sexual orientation, pronouns, politics, religion, wealth, borders, field of employment, education level, disability, etc. It's just about recognising that another year has passed and a new one is beginning. Simple. As. That.

Woke and all that stuff that the ABC Media promoted is entirely justified because it is indeed a 'Media thing'.

What Woke and all that stuff shouldn't be promoted via, is in Politics. It's not a political thing.

So if Political people watch TV and don't like Woke. Tough luck.
If Media people are upset that Politics isn't interested in Woke. Tough luck.

Two very separate countries, you could say. One is Woke, the other is not.

So Armchair Politician. If you don't like Woke, then don't plug into mainstream Media. Maybe you should have tried the far less Lefty internet.

The Media running its own show has every right to promote its Woke. It should be funding the ABC, not taxpayers, though.

NYE is 10 days late which is bad karma and resembles action on climate change.

There are only so many times you can view fireworks and eventually it’s no longer of interest.
