Brisbane's Tap Water Tastes Funny

Noticed Brisbane's tap water tastes funny? You're not imagining it, but it's still totally safe to drink   Sad

ABC News

Locals and tourists visiting Brisbane may have noticed the city's tap water has an unusual taste, but authorities have confirmed it's safe to drink.

In short:
A strange taste to Brisbane's tap water is due to a harmless organic compound.

The compound often appears after heavy rain and hot weather.

What's next?
Seqwater is working to distil the taste of the water and residents should notice a difference by the weekend.

A strange taste and smell to south-east Queensland's tap water is harmless and should begin to disappear by the weekend, the region's main water supplier says.

People in parts of Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan may have noticed an earthy, grassy or musty taste and smell to their tap water this week.

Seqwater's Matthew McCahon said the taste is due to naturally occurring organic compounds that appeared after recent heavy rain.

"It's a perfect storm of really hot weather, rainy weather, lots of nutrients and lots of sunlight that have created this," he said.

Compounds aren't toxic
The compounds are non-toxic and get filtered out through the water treatment process but can leave behind an odd taste.

The worst of the taste is expected to disappear in the coming days.

"It's really important to understand the water is safe to drink.

"We are seeing significant improvements in the water production from the start of this week and people should start noticing a difference in taste this weekend," McCahon said.

Seqwater said recent weather has impacted the taste of Brisbane's drinking water.

Seqwater is working to move large amount of water around the south-east's water grid to help distil the compound and improve the taste of the water.

Parts of southern Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich are likely to feel the effects the longest because of how close they are to Mount Crosby water treatment plant, where much of the affected water is processed.

Monitoring of the water catchment and the treatment process has also been increased, Seqwater said.

Reports of gastrointestinal issues 'unrelated'
While some have taken to social media to complain of gastrointestinal issues after drinking tap water, Mr McCahon said that was not caused by the compounds in the water.

"Those medical symptoms are unrelated to the water. The compounds are non-toxic and are not harmful to humans," he said.

"Those people should seek the guidance of a healthcare professional or call 13 HEALTH."

Matthew McCahon stressed the city's tap water is safe to drink, despite the odd taste.

The taste of the water can be improved by chilling it in the fridge or by adding some fruit to it, Mr McCahon said.

A carbon-based water filter can also help as it will remove elements of the compound.

Mr McCahon said it's the fourth year in a row they've dealt with the issue.

The taste of the water can be improved by chilling it in the fridge or by adding some fruit to it.

"We see this seasonally. It happens in short bursts and at a varying level of intensity," he said.

"This year's been particularly intense."

The recent heavy rainfall has pushed many of the region's dams to their limits.

Controlled flood releases are set to begin from Somerset Dam and Wivenhoe Dam on Thursday afternoon and continue for the next few days.

Twin Bridges and Savage's Crossing near Fernvale and College's Crossing near Ipswich will be closed for several days due to the releases.

Australia facing water crisis due to mass immigration

December 29, 2024

The Noticer

Australia’s water security is at risk due to rampant mass immigration-driven population growth which is continuing at “third world rates”, new research shows.

A report commissioned by Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) and published last month found that water demand is outstripping improvements in the efficiency of household water use, making cities more vulnerable to extended droughts.

The authors said that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find new efficiencies while water demand has exceeded supply by the conventional means of rainfall and groundwater since the early 2000s, all while the continent is becoming dryer.

“State governments and water utilities are turning to desalination of seawater to augment water supply to meet population growth. Yet desalination is hugely expensive. Per litre of water, desalination is at least 2.5 times the cost of rain-fed dam water, which means much higher water bills for households and businesses,” author Dr Jonathan Sobels said.

The report found that future population growth will require adding up to 1,450 gigalitres to annual water supply in capital cities in coming decades – the equivalent of the total volume currently supplied each year to Sydney, Melbourne and Perth combined.

The warning came just weeks after Sydney Water warned that it will increase water prices by 50% over the next five years in response to population growth.

According to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics figures, 666,800 people immigrants arrived during the last financial year, down 9.8% from last year’s figure of 737,200 – the highest two years on record – with most coming from India, China and the Philippines.

In the year to June this year Australia accepted an estimated 87,600 Indians, 75,830 Chinese, and 36,830 people from the Philippines, while during the 2023 financial year 108,140 Indians, 82,240 Chinese, and 47,220 Filipinos arrived.

But despite mass immigration driving housing and rental crises and being unpopular with a majority of voters, neither major party is prepared to make major cuts, with Opposition leader Peter Dutton has backtracked on a promise to cut migration, while Labor says it wants house prices to keep increasing.

Time to secede ... one of the great cons by 'Labor' was handing over a chunk of Cape Conaveral to the local Aborigines - now every time there is a launch they get royalties... WTF kind of moronic idea is that?    Sit-down money?

Let Sequins drown in its own excrement and show the rest how to go about it.  Imagine drinking that garbage?  One of the basic human rights is clean drinking water and Sequins (South East Queensland Independent New State) is tossing sewerage into the water to ... test the waters over those pesky Human Rights - so they can replace them with Overlord's rights.... Neo-Feudalism.

I've always suspected there was 'somethng in the water' in Queensland.

After all, how else does one explain 'oddities' like Joh Bjelke-Petersen, Annastacia Palaszczuk, Steven "Giggles" Miles, John Gerrard and, last but not least, our very own aquascoot?

Nope! Sorry DNA but since the installation of sand filtering the tap water in Adelaide is pretty good!

The Adelaide geosyncline where sediment was deposited in shallow seas: muddy sandstones, limy, sandy mudstones, muddy limestones etc etc. The sediments slowly sank and accumulated then the folding (northern part) and horst und graben faulting (southern part) created the Flinders Ranges and Spencers Gulf and Adelaide Hills and Adelaide Plains. LOTS of faulting/tremors in Adelaide—don’t put a nuke power plant there!

That is why Adelaide’s water used to be full of lime and tasted disgusting.

No more tho!

Great I wondered if it had improved.

Don't forget mothra, Sad Kangaroo who could have been on the side of the angels but forfeited the opportunity... and John Smith the ex-patriate Queerslander.... all 'oddities' with some mighty odd ideas about reality.  What's good for an Abo or a tranny is good for everyone, right?  Sure it is ... every damned day.... it's only right, isn't it, to cater to their every whim and surrender to their every demand or face violence and threats - such as the threatened and now reality Intifida out west if the voice failed, along with the growing concern over yet another 'summer of bushfires' - a 'brushfire war' - coincidental with the demand by one dopey sheila to burn the whole thing down....?

SEQUINS (South East Queensland Independent New State a.k.a The Rump-Hole of Queensland after Secession by the other eleven New States), has a host of weirdoes - must be what's in the water.

The Emperor's New Clothes in sequins:-

Brisbanes tap water has always tasted shyte to me.

It's one thing to taste of chlorine but that is required as a safety measure to make the water potable.

The addition of fluoride however is completely another matter.

Check the insides of your jug(stainless steel) if you live in a municipality that has it's water fluoridated ...

it will become covered in a white oxidised film ..... the same will happen to aluminium and stainless steel saucepans.
