The US doesn't provide aid and development assistance to NATO countries.
No it only provides funds to NATO. Which is then dispersed.
"Last year, the U.S. contributed 68 percent, which worked out to be 3.49 percent of America's total GDP for $860 billion of the $1.26 trillion NATO spent. "

No, Lee, but I'm curious. How are those funds "given" to NATO?
Countries' defence budgets are spent on
themselves. NATO's running costs, it's common or direct budget, is EUR 4.6 billion (2024).
Of course the US spends more on defence - it chooses to fund the biggest military in the world. The contribution to NATO's running budget, however, is in the above link below.
https://www.nato.int/cps/ro/natohq/topics_67655.htmYou'll note that Germany now pays exactly the same contribution as the US (15.8813%), with France (10.1940%) and the UK (10.9626%) close behind.
Your article listed the 2023 budget for total defence spending. The above figures are for 2024. NATO notes Germany and Poland's increases in spending, a legacy bestowed by Vlad, but committed to a number of years ago.
So no, dear. Providing aid and funding your own military defence are two totally different things.
and other countries to dissuade Russia from using them.
