You seem to think engaging in a war of annihilation would be a good idea, hey, Bobby and yet you claim to be an expect in defence?  Such a silly sausage.   You seem to have forgotten that Putin has a vast nuclear arsenal at his disposal.  What do you think he'd do with it if NATO crossed the border into Russia?  Whistle dixie?  Run along and troll somewhere else.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

The danger is if Putin says - no -
Russia will not allow you to invade Greenland and sends
Russian troops there to confront the Americans.

That would mean a direct war between Russia and the USA.

You claimed the Europeans had all caught the "French disease" and that they, "ran like rabbits", Bobby.  Effectively you're saying they are all cowards. Such a stupid comment, its like describing "French fries" as "Freedom fries" just because the French disagree with you.  As I said, Putin has nukes and seems willing to use them if Russia is invaded.  What a great way to obliterate the world.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

We can only hope that Putin is too busy in Ukraine to anything about Greenland.

Changed your tune, now haven't you, Bobby?  First it was Europeans and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, now it's all about Greenland.  What a wanker.  Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

No it only provides funds to NATO. Which is then dispersed.

So the money given was not aid? Was it then a hindrance? Wink

No, Lee, but I'm curious. How are those funds "given" to NATO?

Countries' defence budgets are spent on themselves. NATO's running costs, it's common or direct budget, is EUR 4.6 billion (2024).

Of course the US spends more on defence - it chooses to fund the biggest military in the world. The contribution to NATO's running budget, however, is in the above link below.

https://www.nato.int/cps/ro/natohq/topics_67655.htm

You'll note that Germany now pays exactly the same contribution as the US (15.8813%), with France (10.1940%) and the UK (10.9626%) close behind.

Your article listed the 2023 budget for total defence spending. The above figures are for 2024. NATO notes Germany and Poland's increases in spending, a legacy bestowed by Vlad, but committed to a number of years ago.

So no, dear. Providing aid and funding your own military defence are two totally different things.

Karnal -  you don't know -

the Yanks even provided and still provide nuclear weapons for Germany
and other countries to dissuade Russia from using them.

Take it up with NATO, Bobi. It's their claim.

You're right, dear. I don't know a thing.

You?

So the USA is paying for NATO. Thanks for that. Grin Grin Grin Grin

No, the American Tax Payer is paying for NATO and Europe needs to pay us back. NATO will be forced to pay its fair share for the next four years and after that it will be sucking on the tit of America again.

European taxpayers are paying more, dear. The US pays just over 13% of NATO's operating costs. Canada pays 6.68%. Who do you think's paying the rest?

LONDON (AP) – Europe´s security “is on a knife-edge” and President-elect Donald Trump is right to say NATO member nations must increase military spending, Britain´s top diplomat said Thursday.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy said that “the post-Cold War peace is well and truly over.”

“Donald Trump and JD Vance are simply right when they say that Europe needs to do more to defend its own continent. It´s myopia to pretend otherwise with Russia on the march,” Lammy said during a speech in London setting out the center-left Labour government´s approach to foreign policy, which he termed “progressive realism.”

Lammy said people often ask him when world affairs will get back to normal, and “my answer is that they will not. Europe´s future security is on a knife edge.”

Trump has for years expressed skepticism about NATO, openly questioning the value of the alliance that has defined American foreign policy for decades and threatening not to defend members that fail to meet defense-spending goals.

It was good work by Trump that made NATO understand that it was not a boys club and they had a responsibility to make sure NATO was prepared for the safety of europe.

Quote:
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg praised President Donald Trump on Thursday for pushing countries in the alliance to boost their defense spending, an issue that has driven a wedge between Trump and Europe before.

Let me thank you for the leadership you show on the issue of defense spending because it is very important that we all contribute more to our shared security, and it is really having an impact because, as you said, allies are now spending more on defense,” Stoltenberg said while taking reporters’ questions after the leaders met at the White House. “All allies are increasing their defense budgets.”

We've just proven that your DL has absolutely no idea what he's talking about, old boy. I'm guessing you don't either and just recite his lies.

And that's okay. That's what we now do here. You repeat your lines, and we factcheck them.

Europe already outspends the US on Ukraine - $133 to $91 mil. Should Europe do more?

That's a given. Your DL will be throwing Ukraine to the dogs. Europe's security is indeed on a knife's edge, now on two fronts: Vlad, and your DL.

You used to like Danish. Happy now?

Incorrect. The 2% GDP defence spending target was agreed by all NATO members at the NATO summit in Wales in 2014.

Vlad, at the time, was sending little green men into Crimea. There was a timeline, members committed to the timeline, and today, all members are meeting their 2% targets.

Quote:
“Let me thank you for the leadership you show on the issue of defense spending because it is very important that we all contribute more to our shared security, and it is really having an impact because, as you said, allies are now spending more on defense,” Stoltenberg said while taking reporters’ questions after the leaders met at the White House. “All allies are increasing their defense budgets.”

“Do you give me credit for that?” Trump pressed.

“You have helped to do that,” Stoltenberg said.

Jens Stoltenberg is doing her best to respond to a child.

Ever get the feeling?
