“Extreme weather'

100 years ago, an average human's chance of dying in 'extreme weather' was:

1 in 4,000 each year

Today it is:

1 in 400,000 each year

So why the panic about 'extreme weather'?

Its a tiny risk. And its going down

Beats me  Undecided

The other thing I just remembered about Hollywood hills… the roads apart from being so winding… were so very narrow! More like laneways!
I suppose to utilise more land for more houses!

Are you saying these all time records are proof that we are having less extreme events?

They are not 'all time' records.

There is no denying Climate Change is making things worse!!!

And you quote NASA, who quote the IPCC Working Group 1 - The Physical Science Basis. So what exactly did the IPCC find in their study. No links. Although there is a rumour that will change by the next one due to Climate Attribution Studies (CAS). CAS is computer modelling and the models have not been verified or validated, much like the other climate models.

...

...

So tell us what is currently worse. Be sure to look at the riders beneath. Wink

Or not.

For cyclones -

from Nature - https://www.nature.com/articles/s43247-024-01683-2

Although the headline says Indian Ocean Basin, have a look at the other areas. One outlier does not climate make. Wink

The effects of Climate change is why Governments are moving towards lowering carbon emmissions using renewables and Nuclear....Nobody who matters is listening to you dickheads about some global conspiracy about Climate Change being a hoax....You lot are deluded and stupid!!!

Quote:
Climate Change and Extreme Weather

The occurrence of extreme events is unprecedented in the observed record and will increase with increasing global warming, according to the Sixth Assessment report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Every bit of warming matters.

Climate models project a future decrease in the total number of tropical cyclones, but an increase in the proportion of high intensity storms (stronger winds and greater rainfall)

Now all you have to do is produce data.

From your first reference -

"The occurrence of extreme events is unprecedented in the observed record and will increase with increasing global warming, according to the Sixth Assessment report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Every bit of warming matters."

And I showed that the IPCC did NOT say that.

Oh sometime in the future. Those Climate Models that have not been verified, validated or even have start conditions. As the IPCC said not shown.  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Did you look at the picture and associated graphs from Nature? They show "destructiveness". Shouldn't more intensity mean more destructiveness.

The number of wildfires in the US has been reducing for a century.    That large reduction in fires was due to better forest management, not climate.

But then…
… Greens reduced forest management and brush clearance.
… Suburbs spread into the forests.
… No new dams were built, due Green activism.
… Increased vagrancy and activism, increased arson.

AGW causes jetstream wind extremes in the Arctic, with the LA fires probably linked to that effect. The north-south movement of the jetstream increases. The cyclone graph in #21 shows peaks  higher in each region, than pre-1990.
