A man’s leg has been amputated after it became stuck in machinery in a horror workplace injury in Sydney’s west.

Emergency services were called to Yamma St in Sefton just after 8.45pm on Sunday.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said a man in his 70s had got his leg stuck in machinery.   Sad

Fire and Rescue NSW rushed to the scene, with a spokesman confirming a specialist rescue fire truck was sent out.

“On arrival crews encountered a man injured by machinery,” the spokesman said.

“Firefighters assisted to extricate the patient.”

The man’s leg was amputated as a result.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

NewsWire has contacted SafeWork NSW for comment.

Why is a man at his age working with these dangerous machines?.  Why is a man of his age still working anyway?.   Sad

How is this "machinery" dangerous?

It doesn't say what sort of machinery.

Using a broad generalisation like "machinery" tells you nothing.

People make silly decisions - and in some cases  you just can't legislate for idiots.

They ignore workplace practices & procedures for operating around dangerous machinery.

As for his age & him still being working - there are so many variables as to why he might in the current financial climate.

It happened his leg was stuck and had to be amputated.
It was in Yamma Street Sefton. NSW
I looked it up in maps and it’s an industrial area with lots of different work places, eg.
Southern Cross metals, Temperature Controls, Romar (nuts and bolts) Jolong (windows)
It’s just a short street.

I don't think the unions like age discrimination.

He may not even be in a Union.

Do you like age discrimination?

The Confederates lost because they weren't in the Union.
Even though the Confederate workers were better than Union workers. The Union bosses were better than the Confederate bosses.

I didnt see any Union representatives seeking Members in Ukraine and telling them about safe workplaces.

Enough of the Union / Confederate crap.

In that case the union was a Union of States not workers.....

just as the confederacy was a Confederation of States not workers.

As for the Ukraine - Did you expect you would? So your point being?

Would you expect to find Unions of workers in India? Roll Eyes

It will be properly investigated by SafeWork   NSW.

My bet is that proper OH&S procedures were not followed.
Charges could be laid.

If the person in question deliberately ignored procedures then the charges should all be on him.
