Do you guys not get it? its not about going cashless (which is ridiculous anyway) but about controlling pensioners money. They are set a limit on what they can spend on what and RENT is one of those things. Dont you remember all the ppl complaining they couldn't pay their rent?

It discriminates on ppl with disabilities and pensioners and aboriginals and causes them to be stigmatised.

You need permission (if they will give it) to pay anything - including eg a fridge or a car repair.

Not to mention how indue was making so much money off it!

Well I'm not happy with my taxes going towards grog and gambling. You only get those privileges when you contribute to society.

Last garage sale I had a lovely customer organised me so people could pay me directly into my account.

No one said it couldn't be done. That it can be done doesn't mean it is done.

How?

Perhaps 10 years ago when cash was still a thing.

because people who are struggling often source their goods from garage sales and op shops, where cash is still king

They have no restrictions on 20% of the money.

Anyway, restriction on alcohol purchase and consumption - think of it as sharia law coming early. For Aborigines, that would be the case if the Indonesians had beaten the British to the privilege of bringing Aborigines into the modern world ( semi- modern, under sharia,  that is).

Vinnies, Salvos, Red Cross etc, all have card payment terminals.

I've never been to a garage sale that has eftpos facilities. Besides, card payments usually have fees attached

The card quarantined 80 per cent of a person's welfare payments to prevent it being used to buy alcohol, gamble or be withdrawn as cash in an effort to improve anti-social behaviour and social problems.

So 20% of the welfare payment IS available in cash. That is about $150-$200 per person per fortnight.
How often do you go to garage sales in very remote Aboriginal camp and how much do you expect to pay on each occasion?
