It is an ethnic slur referring to all subcontinentals in its British cultural context, not in the Australian context where it simply means a cricketer from Pakistan.

That some people may use it in the British context, (particularly among British migrants, I'd bet) does not indicate that it has reached the Australian cultural general milieu as a slur, so not perceived as a slur in Australia when referring to Pakistani cricketers - it's currently on the same level as 'Aussies' and 'Kiwis'.
