Conservatives exhibit a pronounced resistance to perspectives and experiences outside their own worldview, driven largely by mental laziness, the inability to self-reflect and an overall deficit in emotional intelligence.
This cognitive rigidity fuels their tendency to project their own flaws, such as selfishness, dishonesty, and prejudice, onto others. It's an intellectual laziness that makes it difficult, if not impossible, for them to comprehend or respect ways of thinking that challenge their dogma.
This narrow-mindedness isn't just a quirk; it's a foundational aspect of their worldview. The oft-quoted observation that "a conservative doesn't understand a problem until it affects them personally" encapsulates their inability to empathise or grasp systemic issues without direct personal experience. Until hardship lands squarely on their doorstep, they remain oblivious, entrenched in a mindset of denial or dismissal.
As a result, attempting to engage conservatives with reasoned arguments or appeals to empathy, such as your family history Monk, is futile. They lack the wiring for such considerations, prioritising self-interest over collective good.
Ironically, many of those who vociferously oppose unions, universal healthcare, and free education belong to the very demographics that stand to benefit most from these initiatives. Yet they dutifully align themselves with the interests of the wealthy elite, parroting talking points designed to keep them subjugated. It's a remarkable display of ideological manipulation, where the oppressed champion the agenda of their oppressors, oblivious to the betrayal of their own interests.
And they're doing so to the point now where they're not only excusing nazism, but defending it.
