Here in Australia, right now, we're having a political debate about the propagation of Nazi symbols, graffiti and hate speech. The Libs are proposing mandatory minimum sentences of 12 months imprisonment for the public display of prohibited Nazi symbols, prohibited terrorist organisation symbols, and giving the Nazi salute in public.
Yep...
It highlights the effect cultural filters have on our collective sense of morality.
While Nazi symbology is almost universally offensive to us, not so much Chinese communism or its symbology.
Nazism assaulted our collective Western European sense of cultural self with its depravity.
Mao's communism, on the other hand, was perpetrated by Asiatics, to whom we of the West feel no cultural connection, nor do we feel we have inherited the stain of their sins.
That and. of course, the economic gains to be had by licking Chinese arse.
So, swastika out, hammer and sickle in.
