Just when you think Trump can’t go any lower
Jan 31st, 2025 at 4:23am

Without offering any evidence (not that he ever does), Trump has laid the blame for the tragedy over the Potomac River at the Democrats and supposedly their DEI policies. Just when you thought Trump couldn’t go any lower, he does. Well, if we’re going to play that game, Pete Buttigieg got it right when he said that millions of flights were completed safely under the previous administration. Personally, I’d go further to remind Trump and his deranged supporters that this happened on his watch after he has carried out mass firings without any justification.

Story on ABC this morning said that helicopter pilot, who was training with night vision goggles on,  had been instructed to hold . Pilot either didn't listen or missed the instruction and they took off anyway.

Citing media reports, Mr Trump said the FAA was actively recruiting workers who “suffer severe intellectual disabilities, psychiatric problems and other mental and physical conditions under a diversity and inclusion hiring initiative spelled out on the agency’s website. Can you imagine?

“These are people that are I mean, actually, their lives are shortened because of the stress that they have. Brilliant people have to be in those positions.

“The FAA website states they include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism – all qualify for the position of a controller of airplanes pouring into our country, pouring into a little spot … little runway,” he said.

He rejected the FAA diversity and inclusion hiring plan which said diversity was “integral” to achieving the mission of “ensuring safe and efficient travel.”

“I don’t think so. I don’t think so. I think it’s just the opposite,” he said.

Mr Trump took aim at the Democratic Party’s legacy on aviation safety, taking aim at the former secretary of transportation – Pete Buttigieg – and accusing him of running the Department of Transportation into the ground with diversity initiatives.

Keeping Americans Safe in Aviation
January 21, 2025

Every day, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), within the U.S. Department of Transportation, oversees safety for more than 45,000 flights and 2.9 million airline passengers.  These Americans trust the FAA’s public servants with their lives, and it is therefore imperative that they maintain a commitment to excellence and efficiency.

During the prior administration, however, the FAA betrayed its mission by elevating dangerous discrimination over excellence.  For example, prior to my Inauguration, the FAA Diversity and Inclusion website revealed that the prior administration sought to specifically recruit and hire individuals with serious infirmities that could impact the execution of their essential life-saving duties.

Illegal and discriminatory diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring, including on the basis of race, sex, disability, or any other criteria other than the safety of airline passengers and overall job excellence, competency, and qualification, harms all Americans, who deserve to fly with confidence.  It also penalizes hard-working Americans who want to serve in the FAA but are unable to do so, as they lack a requisite disability or skin color.  FAA employees must hold the qualifications and have the ability to perform their jobs to the highest possible standard of excellence.

I hereby order the Secretary of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administrator to immediately return to non-discriminatory, merit-based hiring, as required by law.  All so-called DEI initiatives, including all dangerous preferencing policies or practices, shall immediately be rescinded in favor of hiring, promoting, and otherwise treating employees on the basis of individual capability, competence, achievement, and dedication.

The Secretary of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administrator shall review the past performance and performance standards of all individuals in critical safety positions and take all appropriate action to ensure that any individual who fails or has failed to demonstrate requisite capability is replaced by a high-capability individual that will ensure top-notch air safety and efficiency.

He was instructed by ATC to pass behind the AA commercial flight but appears to not have done so.

DEI had zero to do with this. It appears to be pilot error by the US Army pilot.

Of course he wont offer up any evidence, he is just deflecting away from his own actions.

The collision quickly raised concerns about the state of air traffic control and oversight and sparked questions about recent leadership changes within the federal agencies charged with regulating air travel.

Just days before the crash, President Donald Trump enacted a sweeping shake-up of the federal agencies responsible for aviation oversight, removing the administrator of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), David Pekoske, and eliminating all the members of a key aviation security advisory group. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which regulates airlines and aircraft manufacturers and manages the nation’s airspace, was also without permanent leadership at the time of the crash, as its top official, Michael Whitaker, stepped down ahead of the new administration’s transition after clashing with Trump ally Elon Musk. Whitaker became the agency’s administrator in October 2023.

I'm not suggesting these sackings had anything to do with this crash, all it shows, once again is trump running for cover and making up lies.
He realy is a truly, truly pathetic manchild.

It's actually very complicated and automatic systems must have failed in some way:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_collision_avoidance_system

A traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS, pronounced /ˈtiːkæs/ TEE-kas), also known as an Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS),[1] is an aircraft collision avoidance system designed to reduce the incidence of mid-air collision (MAC) between aircraft. It monitors the airspace around an aircraft for other aircraft equipped with a corresponding active transponder, independent of air traffic control, and warns pilots of the presence of other transponder-equipped aircraft which may present a threat of MAC. It is a type of airborne collision avoidance system mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organization to be fitted to all aircraft with a maximum take-off mass (MTOM) of over 5,700 kg (12,600 lb) or authorized to carry more than 19 passengers.

Here that, everybody?

Blooby says "it's complicated"

Akin to his position of why he is still in the closet.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cpdx6le5l27o

Mr Butterworth-Hayes said an in-air collision like this requires a number of things going wrong.

He said that in order to fly in civilian airspace, the military helicopter would have needed to be fitted with a transponder alerting surrounding aircraft to its position.

That means both aircraft should have been able to see each other, he says, plus there would have been instructions from air traffic control and an aircraft protection safety device that operate separately from each other.

"On this occasion, you have these two different systems and both should have been able to keep these aircraft separate."

There were instructions from ATC to the US Army helicopter pilot - he/she was told to pass behind the inbound American Airlines flight. For some reason the helicopter appears to have passed in front and the collision has occurred.
