The collapse of a wind turbine in Victoria's south-west following strong gusts in the region has ignited calls for a statewide safety audit.

It appears the turbine was toppled in the wind.

The Bureau of Meteorology recorded wind gusts topping 60km/h on Monday night.

It's not known when the wind turbines will be back operating.

The Berrybank incident is the third of its kind in just over three months, leading the state opposition to call for an urgent review of Victoria's wind farms.

"This is not good enough, it's a brand new wind farm, it's only been up 18 months," shadow planning minister Richard Riordan said.

"There are now 2500 wind turbines across western Victoria. They've caught fire, they've collapsed, propellers are falling and shrapnel is flying off them.
"It's not good enough and we need to understand why."

60 kph isn't a strong breeze it's just over 30 knots good sailing weather.

To fail after 18 months shows serious design flaw were these made in China?

Might be just out of warranty

You would think that such a large engineering structure,
would have included into the design of its control systems,
'auto feathering' of the wind blades, during periods of high winds ?

Don't they ?

Or was the structure, just not 'assembled' correctly/competently   ....by Australians ?

Could be something simple like a auto lubricator failed or ran out of grease, bearing overheated, goodbye blades.

So a maintenance failure. After only 5 years, that is not reassuring.

The Great thing about Nuclear Reactors over pissy primitive Windmills is that besides a great return in power, they also give Australia a massive arsenal of NUKES to kick arse!!

Also, the nuclear waste being dumped in the outback will stimulate an accelerated growth of life, where there is currently useless land. The spillover effect from these radiated zones would be bountiful!

Australia's foreign aid will include nuking SE Asia to increase rice production. White sharks may triple in size.

Bites on the buttocks can be caused by a number of insects, including fleas, mites, and chiggers. These bites can be itchy and cause small bumps or blisters.
