It’s as if every conceivable step towards the worst possible timeline has already unfolded.

A pandemic swept the globe, killing millions, yet was cynically leveraged by ideologues eager to stoke the culture wars. COVID-19 was downplayed as nothing more than a mild inconvenience, a narrative peddled by those who saw public health measures as an affront to their political identity.

Trump, dishonest, narcissistic, and utterly incapable of leadership, sought to wish the virus away because acknowledging its severity would have bruised his ego. Instead, he spewed reckless nonsense about injecting bleach, pushing quack remedies, and demonising masks, ensuring the crisis spiralled further out of control.

Now, as Bird Flu spreads across the US, his acolytes have been fully radicalised against vaccines, public health advice, and even basic precautions. They won’t wear masks, won’t tolerate lockdowns, and won’t accept any action that might mitigate the damage.

To make matters worse, Trump has clawed his way back into power, this time taking even more extreme measures: withdrawing from the WHO, appointing RFK Jr as Health and Human Services Secretary, blocking the dissemination of critical medical information, and, with Musk’s enthusiastic assistance, stripping funding from the very agencies that could respond to the looming crisis.

If one were deliberately attempting to cripple the United States, it’s hard to imagine a plan more effective than what Trump is already enacting.

The ‘Yamagata’ lineage is one of two varieties of Influenza B, which along with Influenza A subtypes, causes seasonal flu.

But no evidence of the Yamagata lineage has been detected globally since the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 – the virus that causes COVID-19 – and the United States Food and Drug Administration has agreed with recommendations from the World Health Organization that it no longer be included in seasonal flu vaccines.

Yamagata was already in decline pre-pandemic, but none of its strains have been isolated since March 2020. It’s believed containment measures introduced to prevent the spread of COVID-19 – such as face masking and physical isolation – may have helped to drive Yamagata to undetectable levels.
