The Maine governor said they would follow the letter of the law. If Trump makes it a federal law, so it shall be.

As for Veterans Month, nobody will buy it. We know Project2025's plans for the VA.

It proposes significant changes to the (VA) that would lead to cuts in benefits and services for veterans. The plan suggests reducing the number of medical conditions eligible for disability benefits, potentially removing conditions deemed "tenuously related or wholly unrelated to military service." This could result in current beneficiaries experiencing reductions or complete loss of their compensation.

Additionally, Project2025 advocates for the privatisation of VA healthcare services, aiming to replace existing VA hospitals and clinics with private outpatient facilities.

Betraying them like that won't be undone by giving them a month of "pride".

This move “opened sex-segregated spaces like bathrooms, locker rooms, dorm rooms and single-sex admissions programs to anyone who identifies as a woman” and removed “commonsense” student protections in “campus sexual assault and harassment proceedings.”
The Biden Administration argued that states may not pass laws protecting single-sex sports. Their rewrite of Title IX was found to be illegal and has been vacated nationwide.

These state laws and policies are at odds with President Trump's executive order mandating that athletes compete according to their sex assigned at birth.

Governor Mills has stated that the state will adhere to its own laws and consider legal action if federal funding is threatened.

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey has also emphasised that any attempt by the President to cut federal funding, unless transgender athletes are restricted from playing sports, would be illegal and in direct violation of federal court orders.

As for the Executive Order, A US governor does not have to follow a presidential executive order if it exceeds federal authority or conflicts with state powers. Executive orders apply primarily to federal agencies and employees, not state governments. However, if an executive order is grounded in valid federal law or the US Constitution, it can preempt state authority under the Supremacy Clause. In such cases, a governor may be legally required to comply, though states can challenge the order in court.

Trump has not passed any Federal Law that would override the state powers of Maine in this case, until he does so, the governor is right to follow the law of her state.

If you don't like that, you can slur all you like, but you're anger should be directed towards Trump for wanting to rule rather than govern, being lazy rather than legislating.

Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023

This bill generally prohibits school athletic programs from allowing individuals whose biological sex at birth was male to participate in programs that are for women or girls.

Specifically, the bill provides that it is a violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 for federally funded education programs or activities to operate, sponsor, or facilitate athletic programs or activities that allow individuals of the male sex to participate in programs or activities that are designated for women or girls. (Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded education programs or activities, including in public elementary and secondary schools and in colleges and universities.) Under the bill, sex is based on an individual's reproductive biology and genetics at birth.

The bill does not prohibit male individuals from training or practicing with programs or activities for women or girls as long as such training or practice does not deprive any female of corresponding opportunities or benefits.

The Government Accountability Office must report on the benefits for women or girls in single-sex sports that would be lost as a result of male participation. In particular, the report must document the negative psychological, developmental, participatory, and sociological effects of male participation on girls.
