WASHINGTON, March 3 (Reuters) -
The United States is pausing military aid to Ukraine days after U.S. President Donald Trump clashed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in the Oval Office, a White House official confirmed on Monday.
The official said the U.S. is pausing and reviewing aid to ensure it is contributing to a solution.
The pause will last until Trump determines the country's leaders demonstrate a good-faith commitment to peace, according to Bloomberg and Fox News reports.
"This is not permanent termination of aid, it's a pause," Fox News quoted a Trump administration official as saying.
Bloomberg reported that all U.S. military equipment not currently in Ukraine would be paused, including weapons in transit on aircraft and ships or waiting in transit areas in Poland. It added that Trump ordered Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to execute the pause.
The reports come hours after Trump told reporters at the White House that he had not discussed suspending military aid to Ukraine, but added that Zelenskiy "should be more appreciative" of Washington's support.
Nearly three years into the war, Washington has committed billions of dollars in aid for Ukraine
Yes, but Karnal caused me to examine Trump's 'peacemaker' credentials; they are based, not on respect for international law (which most other leaders are bleating about, while claiming they support it), but on a position of strength - which is why Trump is cosying up to Putin, to avoid facing a powerful Russia-China axis in the future.
But the 'peacemaking' doesnt extend to the Israel-Gaza war, because Trump reckons he can offend the Arab world without serious consequences, hence Gazans are now facing a WW2-type 'Leningrad catastophe' - a war crime.
The clock to the mid-terms is clicking, can Trump keep enough Americans onside?
Excellent analysis, Great. I think you've got it.
Not sure why you'd cosy up to Vlad to be part of an axis. Vlad's the supplicant in the China alliance, the patsy.
He's not holding any cards.
I'd say DL plans an alliance with Russia/China
against Europe. They're his real enemy here. JD said as much in Munich.
The rules-based order isn't cynical, it's real. It's allowed Europe and the US to experience the most peaceful and prosperous period in human history, hands down.
Sure there have been blips, but you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. China has used the post-war order to develop economically. Its entire business model requires free trade, free passage, stable currencies, but importantly, peace. China also receives beneficial trade arrangements - or
did before DL got stuck in.
Siding with DL because he's easily exploited has to be the most cynical position of all. A rules based order requires standards everyone adheres to - rules. We need them. Returning to the age of imperialism is the worst possible option for global security and prosperity.
