Trumps' worst act of bastardry

US President Donald Trump is considering the decision to revoke temporary legal status for 240,000 Ukrainians who fled the war with Russia.

The highly controversial move could put them on a fast track to deportation.

“We’re not looking to hurt anybody, we’re certainly not looking to hurt them, and I’m looking at that. There were some people that think that’s appropriate, and some people don’t, and I’ll be making the decision pretty soon,” Trump said on Thursday.

This potential shift is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to dismantle Biden-era humanitarian parole programs, which have granted temporary legal status to over 1.8 million migrants.

Sources told Reuters that the rollback of protections for Ukrainians was already in motion before Trump’s public clash with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last week. The policy shift could take effect as soon as April.

The administration has also signalled plans to revoke parole for 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans as early as this month, a decision first reported by CBS News.

The January 20 executive order signed by Trump directed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to “terminate all categorical parole programs.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed the Reuters report, stating on X that “no decision has been made at this time.” However, DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin declined to offer further details.
